Availability of Nikon D800 in Singapore

Since you already know the criteria for the shop to get a set, go find shops that are more popular for selling point and shoots.

I didn't really pre-order. On the way home, stopped by a random shop, asked for it, paid deposit and collected it yesterday. They said 15 sets available in SG when I asked, and they were eligible for 1 set.

I have spoken to a few dealers and they have told me that there is stock at Nikon but to take 2 D800 and 2 D4, they must also take in like 300+ unsellable Nikon Coolpix P&S.

Please bear in mind that they are not new models but outdated models and in weird colors. As a result, most shops are unable to accept the losses that they will incur and therefore have decided to pass on selling the D800 until Nikon stops with these strong arm behavior.

So far, I know of only 6 D800 bodies that were delivered, anyone else can add to the list?

Cathay 2
Alaln Photo 2
TK Foto 2

If this is really true, I think I will give up on Nikon for good.

Since Nikon SG is really short on sets, this sounds like a good strategy to select who gets allocated sets to sell.

Seems like a Singaporean posted on Dpreview or Fred Miranda that he got a D800 from downtown Singapore...so it should be out already.

But D7000 did not face a price hike in the beginning?

yea I agree. the d7k SRP pricing was more in line with other countries. But there was limited stock too and the street prices was quite near to the SRP.

D800 is a great camera but the thought of paying more because we reside in this region makes me feel like being a carrot.
Of course there are other options such as getting it from over the causeway or the US and lose the warranty. For the time being, I guess its best for most of us who doesn't need the camera (not desperately) to spare a thought for our wallets and hold on for the time being. I would say the D700 or D7k are both great cameras to get hold of meanwhile if u really need a dslr.

D800 have been out for a few days in Singapore.

there are other dealers who have the stock not only these 3, don't forget dealers like harvey norman, bally photo so lets not jump into conlcusion shall we?

I said I know of the 3 I listed and asked for others to add to the list.

Also I spoke to HN and BP and both claim stocks not in yet.

Wow.. if this is true.. it is a very bad and stupid business model for the dealers and in the end the consumer suffer as prices will be jack up to recover the losses.

If this continues we will have a striving grey market !!

I believe MSC also got 2 stock because I'm "lucky" number 3 on the list.

Really feel like selling all my lenses and going to get a Canon 5D MKIII but then I'll probably lose out $2k by doing that.

They got only 1. Coz I am the next in line. No.2 I am.. Haha

SLRR got 1 from what I was told. The strange thing is that some of the older Nikon sellers like Max Photo, Parisilk and Gopes did not get any. Either that or they are not telling the truth.

I guess its not an easy thing to explain to customers that they only receive 1 from Nikon and it was sold already.

Lol. Then who was lucky number 1?

Actually I dunno. But is not u and me so we dun bother about who. We concentrate on when we are going to get it. Haha

I heard from Audio House at Liang Court that they got it last week and sold out. Price is $4066. They got D4 on display there, price $9k+

They dun need to explain. They cannot tell us what is happening too. If not someone will be very unhappy and will not give them stock anymore. Business Stratgey.

Only 12 D800 sets have been delivered to SG so far. In the meantime, Canon is selling their 5D3s like hotcakes.

Camera Rental Centre already has 1 D800 available for rental so for those who can't wait... ;)

Bro, how u gather the number. Not doubting u, just curious.

CRC has 10 5Dmk3 and 1 D800... Nikon, y u no make enough D800???

I heard 10, 12 and 15. So not sure which is true.

But the truth is that Canon has delivered tons of 5D3 and they are continuing to do so.

wah .10 5DMK3! the D800 must be very hot on the rental list. only 1. :bsmilie:

went to NSC to 'molest' D800 +24-70 during lunch time. hur hur

Harvey Norman's at Funan also got one, sold at SRP of $4488. Heard separately from another camera retailer in Funan that whole of Singapore only had 30 sets. Whether it's 12 sets or 30 sets, key point is that Nikon's supply management needs an overhaul.

They have literally tens of thousands of customers world-wide waiting to plonk their cash down on a shiny new D800; all of whom except a lucky few are now sitting on waiting lists with no clear indication of next date of delivery. The impatient few with no lens invested will just jump straight to Canon 5DMk3 while loyal customers with money invested in their system are kept waiting. Not a smart way to do business or retain customer loyalty. Given the long long delay of the D800 launch since last year, I would have hoped that they would've built up sufficient inventory to meet most of the demand at launch. :dunno:

And the D800E will only be 8% of D800 production. May be easier to get a unicorn's horn.
