Just use whatever camera you have first.

Also, normally for new camera you also need some time to get familiar with it.

If it make you feel anything better, paste the label "D800" at your camera.

When the time the D800 is here, no one will actually buy it.

The camera is neither here or there and ISO only 6400 ....

D7000 also can do the job.

I'm beginning to think u dun really have an idea what u are talking abt. Just comparing D700 and D300 alone will tell you, even with the same ISO settings, you get very different noise level outcome.

Both can reach high iOS yes, but at what point your photos starts to bleed is totally different. My guts feel is that the camera will go OOS very fast. Seeing the units of D700 still available while having long waiting lists from each shop, it definitely have a short shelf span for the first two batches.
