I then went over to iphoto & enquired about the D800E & David ( very friendly ) told me can gave me even a better price if I am willing to wait as stock will be coming in this week...........................

It's the SAME with buying from ANY OTHER shop in Singapore. iPhoto takes their stocks from Nikon, as does CP, MS, TK. If you are so afraid, the best thing is don't buy. Then no more worries.

And I had thought that the idea of providing manufacturer warranty is to provide an ease of mind... now it is a hassle...?! Haha!

Maybe for your case must buy non warranty set . Test on e spot , no problem buy.
When equipment spoil just dispose , " no hassles " lol

u forgot need to photocopy receipt in case receipt is thermal one and will fade in 3mths...
i think what he is worried is some shops sell 2nd grade products or recond...but recond got no warranty mah....or different warranty card right?
but one thing for sure...i did not walk in to AP to buy bec i ever ask once before...a bit like beng beng...so lazy to talk so much to nego...i believe i could have gotten a better price there, yet i didn't get from there..more bec of the salesman tatic

Bring your laptop and use exif viewer to verify the shutter count = 0. Just a suggestion.

I am not sure if anyone would allow you to test a new ( pro) camera on the spot and then decide not to buy it after you are not happy with it.
I might be wrong though.

But they might let you test "test" set though.

Once you switch on the camera, just see if the camera requires you to input the date and time.
Since it's a new camera, it requires you to do this step before you can actually snap a shutter.

I am not sure if they allow you to test a pro camera before you pay for it.

Anyway my experience with Nikon was quite pleasant.
The last time I had an issue with my D7K , once focusing point did not light up, I went back to Nikon after a weeks of purchase and had a one to one exchange.
I have friends who had the similar experience with lenses.

I am a NPS member though but my friend is not.
So ... bottom line is get a local set.

But my experience may differs from the rest of yours
