First time Nikon ever slashed down the price. I guess that they are beginning to feel the pressure from Canon now. It's time to wake up! :what: Canon 300D black is going for $1,500++ now, so if Nikon still doesn't reduce the price of D70, how to generate sales? :dunno:

Normally, Nikon would rather discontinue the product than to slash the price down.

As technology advances, the value of DSLR will drop drop..... just the PC market. One of these days, everyone including the kids could afford a DSLR. :bigeyes:

Look at the Mobile Phone market, almost everyone can afford including children. :sweat:

I think Nikon is gearing up for price war w/ Olympus which will be lauching the new 4/3 entry level SLR in Dec. Heard that the price w/ lens is about $1,700. See specs at

AP = 1900 b/4 G (quoted on 5th Nov 04)
MS = 2030 w/ G (quoted 3rd Nov 04)
TK = 1740 w/ G (quoted today)
CP = no quote
