looks kinda soft or out of focus....or my eyes are deceiving me?

no, your eyes are not deceiving. the photo is of very poor quality - its both soft and out of focus. i just put it here because i liked the emotion in it.

Asterixsg,
rich color and good composition. The picture is so well taken that, I feel that if the horizon could be corrected just slightly, the photo would have been even nicer. But still very well done.

#36. Sacrificial stone

My guidebook said that the emperor used to sacrifice animals on this stone, to appease the Gods.
When I reached this place, I found a long queue of people waiting to be sacrificed. :bsmilie:
I waited for a few minutes and when this girl struck a cute pose, I pressed the shutter :bsmilie:

#37. Performance at Drum Tower

There is a performance for 2-3 minutes every 30 minutes at the Drum Tower. Even before you realize what's happening, its over :(

you almost got a very powerful image. it is not easy to capture the cyclist at the right spot, more so it is highlighted by a white patch behind, giving it an extra focus. there is enough motion, yet sharp enough to recognise the form and required details.

just need to play around with contrast, retrieve details in the shadows of the pagoda, straightened the axis and crop off the tree on the right.

thanks for your comments, zoossh.
when i was composing the shot, i noticed the cyclist through the corner of my eye, coming from my right ... i just waited for him to come exactly below the tower, held my breath and pressed the shutter. i was kinda lucky, i would say.

i know there is a tilt, i know the tree should be cropped off, but didn't want to play around with the original image. i did try to see what happens when i adjusted the shadows settings. the image looked very artificial, so i left it as is. let me play around a bit more and see what i get. will post the image later.

#43. Cute granny

As I was busy photographing the people engrossed in their activities at Tian Tan, I saw this old granny looking at me with a smile. I pointed my camera towards her and gestured "Can I ?". To which she smiled a bit more. I quickly took a shot, and showed her and her friend the photograph, which drew a few more smiles. That was indeed a good morning. :)

thanks. yes, i love to travel in China. i've seen only a small percentage so far. there are many beautiful places in China that i would like to travel to, before the advent of rampant commercialism.

nice series :D

Thanks to both of you.

#48. Figurines on rooftop - Forbidden City

I read somewhere that higher the importance of the building/hall, more the number of figurines on the rooftop. This was the max I saw.

thanks bro. glad you liked the photos.
if you just want to cover the main sites, i think it can be squeezed into 5 days (like I did). if you are willing to sacrifice your sleep by travelling on night flights to and fro, then it means 3 days leave is enough. if you get a long weekend with say 1 public holiday, then just 2 days leave is also enough. he he he. that's how i look at my travels. :bsmilie:
plan your leave lah, i will work out the itinerary for you. my travels are all cheap cheap one, no 5 star hotels, no fancy restaurants, no shopping - all self planned, free n easy :bsmilie:

if you go to places where transport to and fro airport takes only 1-2hrs and all is spent in the city and nearby excursion, you can cover quite a lot with intensive photographic orientated trips. i did seoul, suwon and DMZ in 5 days, although i blown my chances on DMZ. 1-2 weeks is often meant more for out of the way locations wgere transport takes a lot of time.
