This is the kind of street n candid shot that speaks. The strong lighting added good
Contrast amongst Red ,Green and Blue. He must be damn tired.

As for the "Egg Shell" shot, how long did you exposed it? I see a good opportunity for late night shoot whereby u can have a long exposure to expo the "Egg Shell nets" ( but avoid the bright buildings on the left)

:)

you mean by using a black card to block the bright buildings intermittently like what some poeple do for firework

Thanks for your comments, bro.
#23 was shot at f/8 1.0s. I was there just as it was getting dark and shot a couple of frames in the fast disappearing light. It was terribly cold and a strong wind was blowing too. Yet, I walked around the Theatre and shot several frames. Here they are for your viewing pleasure... (the order in which I shot these was #26, followed by #25 and finally #24 back to the starting point - I should've posted in the correct order)

#24. National Grand Theatre - f/8, 2.5s

This was a short exposure to prevent the buildings on the left to get blown out...

OK, that's enough coverage of the Eggshell :bsmilie:

oh my. you still remember that photograph !!! I've almost forgotten that I have unfinished business in that Outback Australia thread. Haven't ended it yet.

can't forget. you did so many lighting variations in the same composition, so it is hard to forget, but that is certainly very important for landscape shooters who will want to see the intricate differences. you can also do the same here and i think the variations looks even more apparent becos of different magnification and different aspect of the egg shell being taken.

technicalities in this photo are ok lah, not in that other photograph of the girl ;)

 :dunno:

...

 :dunno:

kidding. there was neither any thought process nor technique involved in photographing the girl. it was purely a spur of the moment snapshot. that's what i meant. no offense....

#27. Tian Tan

Can you spot the recursion in this photograph ?

Yes, the pagoda is depicted at the foreground by the poster that is leaning against the bag, while the also being the main subject of the photo further back. :)

the lampost is not in a favourable position.

by the way, does that camera and that poster/bag belongs to you?

Power shot.
thanks bro.

wah liao. you've the eye of a hawk :bsmilie:
actually, its the backcover of the DK Eyewitness guide to China.

and also there's a guy in the right of the frame who is also photographing Tian Tan - so its a photographer shooting a photographer who's shooting Tian Tan. ok, i am getting carried away...

zoossh, the lamppost is really in a lousy position.
that camera, bag and the book are mine.

i realized much later when reviewing the photos that i should've shot this from further left, so that i could either eliminate the lamp post altogether or positioned it to the right of the frame. mistake made, but lesson learnt.

Yup, agree that lamp post is 'blocking' the whole scene. Important thing is lesson learnt. :)

#29. Northwest Tower of Forbidden City

I had walked from the Confucius temple, through the Hutongs, stopping enroute at the Drum Tower and had reached this place. Gave my tired legs some rest and enjoyed these beautiful moments as the tired sun made its way down. The glow on the tower was special.

The "black-card" for FW is not so suitable; some would just burn it over the PS .I actually meant avoiding it by shooting at certain angle or exclude it... but might not be possible in this case.

Thanks for your comments, bro.

#25. National Grand Theatre - f/8 10s

#25 is the best amongst the eggs...both in term of exp and the "S" curve of the half covered "egg" and the moon ( Tao's feel ). This "egg" can beat our "durian”... our durian is surrounded
by so many small coconut trees..:bsmilie: -- no space feel. Thanks for sharing.

I like #25 too.
I don't want to say anything about our Durian, as dunno who will get offended by what.

If I travel to Beijing again, I'll try to do a whole series on the Eggshell. I felt so stupid when I found that the National Grand Theatre was just one traffic intersection away from Tiananmen. I went there on the last night of my stay in Beijing. I had wanted to shoot some pictures during the day too. This is what happens when you don't do proper research before travelling

There's one more interesting subject in Beijing which hasn't been photographed to death (because its not yet alive :bsmilie:) - the Olympic stadium also fondly called the "Bird's nest". A pity that I spent 2-3 hrs going to that place and back, only to find that construction was not complete and there were hoardings and barricades all over the place, which didn't allow for photography. But from what I hear, the hoardings are off now.

Seem pretty fast for the construction to be completed. When i went there at mid-december, the roads and such at the Olympic Park are still not done.

Nice series. captured the spirit and essence of Beijing.:)

Before I went to Beijing, I checked some photos in flickr of the Olympic Stadium. That's what prompted me to make a trip there. Probably the folks who took those photos had some kinda permission or maybe the side of the stadium I went to, was barricaded.

I think the construction is still ongoing, especially the work on the inside, but the outside seems to have been done. I see lots more photos on the internet, that were shot recently.
