It's only 55mm, which equates to 88mm on crop bodies. If reach is what you need, pairing that with the 55-250mm is a good budget option that produces pretty good IQ. The other option is the "do-everything-with-one-lens" 18-200mm, at a slight IQ penalty. If you know what you want to shoot and you want the range, those are your options. But the interest you listed does not seem to warrant the reach, so assess your needs carefully, and buy accordingly.

i see. i was thinking that a good zoom lens would aid in street photography and as well as some landscape shots..
as i am very new to this. please enlighten me

Most of the time a wide-angle lens is better suited for landscape photography. For street photography different people have different takes on it, but generally it does not go into the longer focal ranges unless you're "spying". These are stereotypes of course, as every individual has (again) different needs.

The best advice anyone can give you is to play around with the 18-55 and see what is limiting you, and go from there. If you have the budget, pairing it with a 55-250 should satisfy most of your needs, and for the price they are very good for people first starting out. Once you shoot more, your needs will be apparent to you, and you can then invest in good lenses that are useful rather than wasting space in the dry cabinet.

Edit: The link below is the review for the 24-105mm f/4L lens, look at the mouseover pictures illustrating the different views at different focal lengths. Since those pictures are taken on a full-frame camera, you'll have to adjust accordingly for a crop body, for eg 18mm on crop ~= 28mm on FF, etc.

Flash is good for portraits, especially at night unless the environment is well-lit. Think F1 well-lit. For streets though, I prefer fast lenses as a flash is very conspicuous, and a flash going off even more so. Budget for it but don't rush into buying a flash for starters, the basics, like making full use of your camera, is probably more important. As said before, the more you shoot, the more you'll understand what you need, then you'll buy just that.

If you're into night and city/landscapes, a tripod would be a better investment.

ok.. looks like to best thing to do now is just to commit to a basic kit 1 package , then shoot like hell... the other kits should come in slowly after.

Hi, i just got my 450D kit 1 yesterday with lenspen, canon bag, original spare batt, sandisk 4gb SD card for SGD1125 if u pay by cash, and u get a S$20 marina square voucher. Look for simon, he is friendly. Sitex is not cheaper if you are wondering. i went there and couldnt get a good deal there and went back to CP.
