Yes those girls climb trees in the day and probably have to climb beds in the night.

lol....
like the ones in Karimun & Batam....

Eh guys dun fight ah... dun fight.... messy hair or not, models need to be professional to collaborate with the photographer to produce images with feelings and impact.

*smacks forehead* dear god...

I thought of stereotyping is kinda of a fool's dream, but this thread takes the cake.

Doesn't matter what girl, as long as this is important

:"She (as well as he) must know how to carry her/himself well".

I don't take photographs of models , minus the live concert jazz stint I did a whole year back, as it's not my cup of tea, but I do have friends in uni who had photo shoots done on them that simply made my jaw drop. Nude, swimwear, whatever. Mind you, these gals are uni students, not models, but the photographs taken were simply outstanding.

Hell, I wanted all of them to be my girlfriend when I saw those photographs :bsmilie: ...except I ain't muslim so I can't have more than 1 *muse**muse*.

Then again, the reiteration:"It is up to the eye lookin'g through the viewfinder"

Yes they are the exuberant extroverted sort, caucasian or asian. My rule of the thumb is that if you could get along with them extremely well, shooting would be a piece of cake. Well, at least that's what I experienced in jazz. I basically photograph on the basis of 'anything goes with minimal equipment to get in the way'. I never really bought the idea of lugging brollies, renting studios or playing rambo with a big heavy DSLR.

So in essence, if I were to have a shoot (if my friends could ever convince me that is..), I would prefer a girl that would definately get along with me to the point we can talk hours besides photography (which is a rather bland subject for a girl anyway). If she charms my old(young?) sodden heart, I'll gladly try my best to make her look good.

Then again, I'd be happier playing assistant helping out a friend with his shoot if I got nothing better to do for the day. If I can recall the feeling what is it like to have nothing better to do...

Unlike student, I believe the models must deliver. If I want certain looks, the model must be able to deliver that look I want, period. If they are seasoned and have a professional approach to modelling, they will most likely be able to deliver what I want.

Are we looking for girl friends when shooting models? Why do we care who they are, it's none of our business. If the model delivers, she is a good model. Now, I will care who she is if I am looking for a girl friend.

Now, where on earth does "models who are so full of 'themselves'" gets into the discussion? No one likes models who are so full of themselves. I have met many who behaves that way, both locals and from overseas, and I will not shoot them, case close.

Last but not least the photographer must also deliver. Hence, this becomes a collabarative process.

What's wrong looking for girlfriends when shooting models? It ain't illegal you know..

My dear student, ... this 99.99% is wrong la, in any way you count. This is equivalent to 10,000 Csers, 1 is the odd one out. But I don't think Cs got so many members, right?
Or maybe if you are right, are you saying you also shoot like one of us? :dunno:

Are you a running joke?

You mustn't mix girlfriends with models.

But I can't tell you why. :bsmilie:

I do know that some well-known photographers mixed girlfriends/wives with models.

Want to know some?

Well, maybe I will name just a couple - those that are in full public knowledge.

Alfred Stieglitz and Georgia O'Keefe. And what powerful images!

Edward Weston and Charis (and others!)

One example of mixing girlfriends with models:

Look what a model has done to Patrick Lichfield's marriage. :bsmilie:

Look at the marriages of lots of people who are not photographers!

Do not confuse observation and cause/effect relationship.:nono: :nono:

It's just a question put togather in half jest. If you can't get that as well, well up yours.

And you may never know, some photographers maybe looking for one. Not the ideal case, but well it happens :). I recall a few incidents myself.

So yes, it pays to care sometimes.

Half jest I can, 1/10 jest is getting real tough.

There are many other reasons and purposes to take pictures of woman other than "hot" and erotic.

Looks like that's your primary reason for shooting and all that you are looking for.

Not that there's anything wrong with it, just like to point out that there are many others who wanted to shoot woman to capture the feminine and tenderness side of woman. In these aspect, asian will be better than caucasian.

If I am handed a few dozen copies of maxim or fhm exhibiting tonnes of hot blonde with hot curves I'll probably be num after finishing the 3rd copies, they all looked the same..

How many clothes the woman put on (or otherwise) is not the primary reason why you keep going back to view it, if you are able to capture the glow and best moment nothing else matters.

No point forcing an asian woman to take off their clothes if that's not where their strength lies. Similarly, if you force a 6ft ang moh woman to pose like a japanese cuttie or wear cheongsum she might look terrible.

Can't see why you must labelled them "narrow minded" becos of this. I think you are more narrow minded by doing so.

Chinese plays table tennis, american blacks plays basketball better. Do you call them narrow minded?

Woah... what shameless honesty but yes, it's so honest.

It's generally true that in Asia, Caucasians would be seen as "exotic" and desirable although not every Asian would share that sentiment. The reverse is also generally true in western societies where Asians would be seen the same way.

However, I have good reasons to suspect that Asians aren't as "hot" in the eyes of many Caucasians as we might think. It won't be easy to discuss and debate this issue completely and convincingly but I will briefly list a few points down. (You don't have to subscribe to my observations/opinions although you might want to keep them in mind.)

1) Asians are shorter, and many lack height to strut the fashion runway.
2) Asians are smaller, whether it's breasts or pectorals.
3) Asians look similar, and lack variety in natural hair and eye colour.
4) Asians tend to be more inhibited, tightly-clenched and overly face-saving.
5) Asians tend to be more conservative, hence won't do this and won't do that.

If you observe the Australia-based Asian models' online profiles, many won't do swimwear, or lingerie, or nudity. Be surprised, even here in Australia in this modern day, I still encounter face-to-face in-person Asians who tell me swimwear is porno. (Mind you, they are studying/working in Australia. ) Coincidentally, these narrow-minded Asian models' profiles also remain stagnant, without updates of new images. Your gut tells you that they don't get modeling work/offers from Aussie photographers.

That assumption you made of me is wrong. I don't photograph women in "hot" or "erotic" flavoured images only. I also photograph women in fashion, makeover, dark/goth, and other styles/themes too. I also photograph men, children, families, and events.

Due to differences in culture and upbringing, Asians women are usually more meek, more submission, and less outspoken. In this sense, they may be seen as more feminine and tender. I would tend to agree with you on this, however this doesn't mean that a white man would feel that a white woman is un-feminine and un-tender. It's culture-dependant.

As would I, simply because the style/flavour of photography is the same with every issue. It's a men's magazine, and the images tend to depict women in a certain way, and they stick to it.

If it's a photographic art magazine such as Black + White, then the few dozen copies would all be very varied.

Young Asian girls, in Singapore and even in Australia, like to appear adorable, cute, demure, and innocent, and pose like "a japanese cuttie". It's a (Asian) cultural thing. Asians are good at doing it, and I don't deny it. Anytime I want to create images like this, I look for Asians. Caucasians won't be suitable, and moreover, they may refuse to do it because they don't like the way it looks. As I have said, it's a cultural thing.

Actress Alicia Silverstone was once photographed in a cheongsam and published in (I think) 8Days magazine some years ago. A few years ago in Pan Pacific Hotel in Singapore, I also saw a Caucasian woman staff in a cheongsam as part of the uniform. Both didn't look bad. Cross-cultural dressing may not necessarily look bad.

I would admit my mistake for being biased by not mentioning the "feminine" and "tender" qualities of Asian women. However, I labelled Asian women narrow-minded for other reasons I mentioned but you don't seem to have understood. Maybe I didn't express myself clearly. I also said that ClubSnap members need not subscribe to my views/opinions.
