AW have been taking alot of flak from the british press, football managers and even gov't lately for England team's troubles.

But first of all I'd like to say England is OVER-RATED anyway. :bsmilie: And I hope they don't qualify for Euro 2008.

This is a nice article rebuking all the critics of AW's policy at Arsenal. If England flop shall we blame Wenger?

Have a good day ahead Gooners! ;p

frankly i think the brits think too highly of themselves. everytime world cup comes along they will claim its their time to win it.

critics always slam wenger for fielding too many foreign players and not enough brits. they forget if you are not good enough to make it to arsenal first team, you are probably not good enough for england.

think of it...these critics should start slamming the likes of man u and chelsea for churning out england flops :sweatsm:

:bsmilie: :bsmilie:
Yes England is over-rated !!
Have a good day too !

Great article, thanks for sharing. Being English I do hope that England qualify for Euro 2008 although if they don't and SM gets fired, fine by me too. To blame AW for the ills of the national team is ridiculous - the players have all under-performed and seem to lack passion for the national team. Given their incredible club salaries and the demands from their club managers to put club before country, I think a future England manager should pick from the Championship and get players with a great heart rather than a great paycheck.

Apologies if I sound too harsh in my earlier post.

Honestly I think something is not right in the head of the players. Every tournament they will say 'its our time' and then they go on to over-hype mode. When they didn't win, its always someone else fault.

Then they come back to England and publish their memoirs. Ashely Cole, Stevie G, Lampard, Rooney, Owen etc etc all have their memoirs / autobiographies published.

Remind me, how old are they? :bsmilie:

I know this is an Arsenal thread but if England don't qualify, the blame should fall squarely on the English FA. They really screwed the England fans bigtime with their mismanagement from ALL LEVELS. :thumbsd:

So why blame Wenger? Is it because he is French & successful?

At least SGE qualified for every tournament and reached QF rounds.

well they only got rid of SGE cos they were getting embarrassed by his affairs :bsmilie:

He did ****-up big time during 2006 World Cup by not taking enough strikers and those he did, were either recovering from injuries (WR/MO) or he had no confidence in them at all (TW). Seems it was one '****-up' too many for him and the FA!

Israel won against Russia! Now England have a chance! :o

They need a win against Croatia to qualify for Euro 08. Now the question is can England delivery under pressure? When the chips are down?

Croatia lost to Macedonia last night so England only need a draw against them on Wednesday night which gives me hope!

Wow!

Everything seems to be pointing towards England qualifying for Euro 08! The results all fall kindly to the English team... will they **** it all up at Wembley? ;p

On a sidetrack, if England qualify, then the supporters will have to endure another year of SCS (Second Choice Steve)... and you know what that means...

england are one of the most undeserving teams who can qualify for euro '08. hope croatia kick their butt...

If u ask me, I think England needs to fail to qualify for Euro 08. It needs a shock to its system to realised that what it has been doing is wrong and the English players are over-rated as a whole.

If England qualifies, it'll be the worse thing to happen to them. Everyone will be slapping each other's back, hi-fives, "this is going to be our year" circus all over again. And again all the real problems regarding the game itself are papered over.

Come to think of it, other than Beckham a few years back, have any other continential club (Milan, Real M, Barca etc etc) ever coverted any English player? Beckham obviously for commercial reasons. Lampard? Gerrad? Nope and nope.

As an Arsenal fan, I am used to hearing "Barca/RM wants Vieira", "Milan wants Henry" and now Cesc.. how come none of them want English players?

And why does Gerrad want quotas? Well then clubs will need to pay more wages and transfer fees to hire above average players like him. Its all demand and supply. :thumbsd:

some seem to think that imposing foreign player quotas to increase the number of british players will improve england's chances of winning the euro or world cup. on the contrary, i think the standard of the premierships is what it is because of these foreign players. the skills of the local players improved because they play with the foreigners day in and day out. take away the foreign players and the overall standard will probably drop. then no more euro or world cup for england ;p

Would Rooney be considered good if he didnt have Ronaldo, Teves(?) playing beside him, giving him world class passes?

Would Lampard be considered good if he didnt have Drogba, Robben, Essien in the same team?

AW said that the only thing you can do for a good player is to get another good player to play with him. And I am glad he has stuck to his principles

I took a small bet at SGpools for Croatia win but I wrote the wrong bet for the HT/FT! Didnt notice it until it was too late!

Come on Croatia! :bsmilie:

Why don't we stick to the topic of Arsenal and how great they are rather than letting this de-generate into an England-bashing thread. I am English and proud of it, support Arsenal for 30 years and now live and work in Singapore. Although you have anti-English sentiments some of you, I think it might be more polite to keep them to yourselves, rather than post them in a thread dedicated to an English football team.

Looks like a great 3 points against Wigan and Moanchester United losing against Bolton :) I am very impressed with the way Arsenal stick to their guns, play their game and wear teams down until the score. Theo had a great game until he was taken out by that donkey Heskey. Gallas' goal was pure class - captain leading by example.

Oh man, our injury list is growing.

I think the team kind of missed the services of Fabregas tonight.

Definitely, any team would miss Fab and Hleb, they found a good understanding together and will form the spine of the team imho. :)
