my next target is a700... dun think i will be selling off my a200 even if i got the a700... a900 is too far reach for me liao... anyway most of my lens are more suited for APS-C... but i need to find 10 reasons to get the a700... sighz... i'm already at the 5k mark this year alone due to the virus...

Hmm 16 lens =S and so many cameras. I figured you have been collecting them for some time i guess haha.

Yes indeed, it took me some years to build up my collection of bodies and lenses, often selling off to upgrade to higher quality lenses and bodies. I'm not rich, just lucky every now and then.

Then time to start asking for good deals from the usual shops...

ya, instead of sitex now have to wait till end of this year.. with rumours of my company...
business is bad.. very..

after everything is settled down, you'll be pestered by me to help find good deals ;p

As mentioned, I am using a200 now too. I am also considering upgrading to a700 to serve my ever demanding needs, however, I think we should wait for a new version of a700s to be introduced by sony (a800s or a1000 or something?). Be patient i guess, cos i realli dun wanna get the a700 as they will get obsolete very fast.. Unless you are comfortable with that, go ahead with the a700 now. :)

try it.....never regretted getting the A700.

one thing, the noise control is good! Quite speedy AF! The viewfinder is good too, though the A900 is better  and it has tandem shooting (i think this is the correct term)

it is a big leap over my A100....not sure if it is as big a leap for your A200.

actually there are good 2nd hand A700 in the market, as long as you get a price comfortable to u. i managed to get a good set at a reasonable price and i hope it will serve me well til the price of the replacement (A800/A1000/Axxxx) drops to a comfortable level. haha

Yes you are quite right about the A900.
I compare the A700 to that of the BMW Roadster, and the A900 is like the Mercedes CLK saloon. Both powerful in their own ways and applications.
Even if A800 / 1000 is released, I will still keep at least one A700. It's a rather spiffy camera. Very sure footed feeling when I use it.

Say, what do you guys think of the SIGMA 12-24mm?
I ordered one and its arriving tomorrow, and going to collect it.
Any feedbacks on this glass?

I think I drop the idea of getting the A350.. cause there's the SONY 35mm G incoming December.. gotta put a fullstop to these buyings...otherwise, christmas party will have to do with a few bottles of Martells less...:(

I get most of my SIGMA's direct so, this one is around S$1,500.00
Yes its front element is protruding quite a bit, just be mindful when using the lens. It's a full frame lens and it also works on A700. I'm cutting down on SIGMA DC type lenses.
Hmm.. this piece will complement my other 15-30mm DG lens very well, same bulging front element.
I was even thinking of SIGMA's 14mm widey - but reviews read so far, wasn't encouraging; flares very easily, and edge softness very extreme.
The 12-24mm flares too, but I think sometimes, flare effects are nice on certain scenes. Otherwise, why would Photoshop include Flare in its Effects menu?

direct? bro, can order direct thru u too? :bsmilie: i only have 3 lens, out of which 2 are Sigma already and FF-ready. :)

the bulging front element is what i am afraid of.....scratching it (or worse breaking it) is not option since it cost so much and is still a hobby purchase....

the 24-70 2.8 i have flares easily too but so far, have not encountered a problem with it.

So far, since starting photography in 1991, I have never broken a lens. Or even dropped one. I always psych myself that I am handling a stick of dynamite whenever a camera or lens is in my hands.

the Sigma 24-70mm is quite a sharp bright lens indeed. I got that in my collection, and rather pleased with buying it as it is cheap (under 1K), and performs well. Funny thing about this lens is it extends outwards at the 24mm focal end, while shortens at the 70mm focal end. And it's quite bulky, compared to the SONY Carl Zeiss 24-70mm. What I don't like about SONY's lenses is the finely ribbed focusing and zoomminng rings; they collect dirt and grime really easily, and is a pain to brush off later. I feel that this is something SONY should look into - the redesigning of their lenses zooming and focusing ring texture.

haha...neither have i broken or dropped one (*touchwood*) but afraid of other elements like a stone fly off the wheel of a car and hit it straight on....sigh...too scared...haha

yah, love the lens a lot. in fact my friend was so impressed with it, it almost never left the camera...

Hm so how does the sigma 24-70 stacks up with CZ24-70 ? I reckon CZ possibly still has in edge in terms of picture sharpness and reduction of glares ?

If its really under 1k , thats really a bargain =D .

Oldflower, did you need to rechip the Sigma 24-70mm when you purchased your A700 & A900> Or did it work the first time you used it? Cos some Sigma lenses need to be rechipped...

As for the image quality, I always feel that Sigma gives a yellow tint, rather flat colours compared to Tamron or Minolta lenses... The latter two tend to give warmer colours and a red tint (which I prefer) and greater colour depth also. I used to use the Sigma 17-35mm and then went on to get a KM 17-35mm which I still use. The colour difference was quite stark and I preferred the KM... your mileage may vary of course...

I think photographers should be proud of the photos they shot, not the equipment.

Agree... but that's always the hard part... it's easier to compare your equipment...;)

the sigma one cost 700+

Hi guys, I love Sony, as long as you can shoot a beautiful photo, it doesn't matter which cam brand you are using, plus more, sony can use minolta lens, which are very good and not so expensive, then why don't we give Sony a credit ? My friend says that Sony A700 is based on KM 7D, and the image quality is not less then A700, haven't touched both, can any one give me a review ? intending to buy a km7D, I'm using sony A100.
