Here's 1 company in UK launching a tablet which is literally a computer

http://www.itpro.co.uk/620224/uk-firm-x2-unveils-its-own-itablet

Small form factor & 10"screen as well. Runs on XP, Win7 or linux, with USB ports, cam, multi tasking & Flash support.

Batt life i wudn't expect it to out last the iPad since its running Atom & full fledge OS instead of phone or web OS.

iPad wud only be a huge success if Apple can provide some very unique content. Otherwise it wud be juz another gadget, like apple TV. I can already imagine commuters reading newspapers, cracking the Sudoku codes, reading a book & iPad-ding :bsmilie::bsmilie:

Anybody knows how does the 3G work on iPad? I mean do we have to insert sim card into iPad?
or is it possible to use 3G without sim card?

Thanks

iPad with 3G uses the microSIM format, those that you find in broadband mobile USB dongle. Though I won't be buying the iPad, but I think iPad will be a success for Apple, perhaps Apple is creating a new market which we can know in the 3rd quarter.

I think the ipad is an evil device meant to take control of the world through people's minds
:o

So its like an integration into web browsers thats the problem? But u can download the flash plugin & i've not have any problems related to any crashes due to flash.

So many websites have flash content/ads & no issues for me, thats why i'm not sure which portion of Flash is the problem. Its more about the money & Adobe not complying with apple rules. Jobs has a bad reputation of being nasty to others not willing to bow to his rules. The latest attack was adobe being lazy, & produce lousy stuff w/o innovation. The more the company grows, the uglier greed head rears & the power abuse kicks in automatically. Not forgetting bullying smaller companies....

Just go google "flash insecurity" and see for yourself how unsafe Adobe's products are. You may never know that your flash that is playing the video you see in letting some malwares do notti things under the hood. And now Adobe is being accused of sabotaging HTML5. http://ln.hixie.ch/?start=1265967771&count=1 This shows Adobe feel threaten by HTML5. BTW, Google is beginning to use HTML in youtube and I believe Google slowly replace HTML5 with Flash.

Using the iPod touch when I'm in KL has been a hair tearing experience as it doesn't support flash and java. There is no point telling me to look for alternative websites that works with iPod touch. The device is supposed to serve me and make it convenient for me, not the other way round! Imagine the frustration when you urgently need to find some information and the webpage can't be displayed. So I say get the netbook when you are overseas.

flash is very resource hog, it will easily crash and drain ipad battery.

flash on netbooks is also a very frustrating experience, at least on single-core atoms... after a while i just used flashblock to spare me the headache

played around with the iPad yesterday during it's launch and although it's much more responsive than my iPhone, screen's much larger, speakers much better, I find no use for it personally other than to tell others "hey, i've got an iPad."

+1 for netbook. I am sure Apple will fix that bug soon.

Would like to ask those who have play with iPad. How do you type when you are holding it? with 1 hand or the same as when typing o iPhone?

with 1 hand, or if you're sitting down, just place it on your lap and use both hands to type like a normal keyboard

This is the main reason I didn't get a netbook. A lot of CPU intensive things just don't run well. I can find a 5 year old Apple laptop computer that does a better job, though it's heavier, it's almost free.

iPad will become something good, but I would wait until second or third generation to buy.

I thought it is quite funny to hold in 1 hand and type with the other, sort of like playing the harp. I just hope for a hybrid device between iPhone and iPad where the screen is just big enough to fit a webpage and yet the device is small enough to be able to hold and type it like an iPhone. But then, men would be carrying handbags instead of stuffing them into pockets or bags. So maybe a fashion statement for the future - men's handbags.

1ghz should be powerful enough to handle office work. There are older computers out there doing office work.

The question is what type of office work and the software required.

my htc hd2 runs on a 1ghz snapdragon processor, and its smaller, comes pre installed with windows office mobile. i got a graphics calculator app in it too. everything foc. good enough for work and a lot more.

even have a ps1 emulator with ff8 installed to keep me from boredem :D

there's iWork 09 compatible with the iPad, and you can attach it to VGA output for presentations via projectors

In Singapore, the SIM card for USB broadband modem is the same with normal handphone.

2 million sold in less than 60 days!:heart::thumbsup:

I think it is just hype by apple. I went to US for a couple of weeks and I see ipad 3G on sale everywhere. Where got no stock. not that many people seems to be interested in the ipad.

I played with it and just could not stand the glossy screen for reading. The nook ereader is very good though. My colleague actually thought the unit was a mockup because the screen looks sooo much like printed paper.

The WiFi version definitely has been selling better than the 3G version in the U.S.A. because of the carrier and its pathetic 3G data support. In fact, the mobile phone carrier I use has been selling a 4G mobile hotspot with an iPad case. It comes out cheaper and you get better service whether on the 3G or 4G network than with AT&T.
