Aperture ring springs back on FE2

Hi guys,

Not sure if I should post this here but anyway, I just bought a 2nd hand Nikon FE2 and I mounted my Tokina 28-70mm f2.6-2.8 on it. And somehow the aperture ring keeps springing back slowly to f2.6. I can't seem to lock it at anything other than f22.

No problem with other lenses, just this.... Am I forgetting something? Or is there something wrong with my lens, because I can't feel any clicking when I rotate the aperture ring.

Thanks a bunch!

Ah it's a lens problem I think.. springs back on my D200 also.. hm.. anyone else with this lens?

If I recall, Nikon lenses couple to the body via a ring surrounding the lens mount, so if the aperture ring of the lens is loose, the spring action of that said ring might push it back.

yup that's what's happening.. will bring it in see if I can get it serviced tomorrow...

I had a F mount ARSAT lens with this problem as well.
It wouldn't open all the way until max aperture.

As it was so cheap, i opened the lens.
Turned out that the spring lost its tension.
I cut out part of the spring and rejoined it to increase tension.

Wala.
But there might be repercussions .. so better check out before trying.
I'm using it as a fully manual lens on EOS body.

Theres some kind of coupling when it works with Nikon, so that metering is always at full aperture and
the desired aperture only activates upon shutter release.

Looks like a small bearing is missing on your lens. It might have dropped after the lens was opened.

You are right... sent it in for repairs.. will cost me $45... :(
