I had to soften this photo a lot because the original was just too sharp.

It would be great to see the original in its full glory the lighting should be awesome Guess its about choices though :)

I am the guy who bought the 133 f2 Apo Sonnar, the Zeiss filter cost me $180 which is reasonable for a 77mm size. I have a 85 f 1.4 and a 35 f2 which I use in studio model shoot.

Welcome to the Zeiss community. Being an early adopter, we will like to hear your views on the 135 APO.

So you are doubly lucky to have access to Shanghai-ese and Thai-Chinese. :)

I felt the Zeiss ZE 35/2 to be too sharp for human portraits as well.

Bro, the previous Pinay better. Got Thai-Chinese lagi best. Afterall, Phillipines and Thai have fared much better than Singapore in the International scene. I felt the oriental looks haven't quite caught on with the International pageants. BTW, can get me in to the bikini shoot? I can be the water boy, contestants escort, handbags carrier, lighting assistant :)

Is Zeisser recuiting? I also want eh.

Hi guys,

Just manage to test out the Zeiss 135mm F/2 at the shop
Mounted a D800E and took some random shots to have a feel for the lens,
At the end I did not walk out of the shop with it....

Here are some thoughts - I do own the 35/2 and 100/2 and 50/2 (formerly)

Size Wise , its like the 35mm F/1.4 big and chunky for diameter and much longer with the hood.
The focusing throw is longer now compared to the 100mm F/2 which makes focusing a bit better, however I still have a mix of shots when focusing at distance >7meters away wide open - This is with the eyecup magnifier on the D800 viewfinder, 36MP doesn't please very well on such focal lengths for misfocus shots - Perhaps better luck with 5DX/6D/D600/700/D4/1Dx users.

Its heavy - at 900G i think its slightly heavier than Nikon's 70-200 F4 and well, 500g lighter than the 70-200 F/2.8 vr2
If you hand isn't steady, I can foresee some challenges focusing in the viewfinder for this heavy lens. For some shots I tested which was in focus, there were some noticeable handshake at 100% on the VF

I tried pointing the lens wide open towards lights and some other objects, no CA / Loca? (the green / blue line) spotted in these situations, I didn't go out in the hot sun to test as thats beyond most shooting scenarios - so thats APO correction I guess...

Its tough as I have the 100 F/2 at home, and at 135 its 2 very near focal length with 2 very different applications - I would like to test the macro capabilities of this lens on the tube however that's about the most I can do over lunch....

I guess over time, only more and more picture and probably a morning out with the lens can make me change move the 135MM regardless of sharpness and corrections.
Good luck guys - its one lens that will definitely shine outdoors , on a tripod , in studio imho..

The sharpness was such that you could see the pores on her face and every blemish...not exactly what I would like to post.

So far, no Shanghainese leh...guess I'm not in that circle yet...

Looking at the pics, I also want to apply for a job to be Kenneth's lighting assistant. :))

Haha bro they have an official photog and me just with one of the sponsors so I only sneak shots during the shoot only :)

SLR Revo has the best prices for Zeiss filters. Bought the 95mm UV for $360. That's at least $100 off every other local retailers and eBay.

Not stepping into Click! like forever. I'll take my business elsewhere.

I've received very good services from Click! and enjoyed very competitive prices for my Nikon purchases there. I think it was a genuine error on their part.

IMO retailers will try to make the money from you when they see a chance to.
It's normal la

With regards to CA and LoCA, this post from FM says it all.

I am surprised to hear the focusing throw is longer than the MP100/2. I hated the focusing throw of the MP100/2 but then I don't do macro. I have expected the 135 APO focusing throw to be much shorter since it is only 1:4 magnification. I am more interested to see comparisons between the MP100 and 135APO than against 135L. Maybe you can help the community with that :)

MWP, so you got the 6D!
How are you liking the pairing with the Contax lenses?

I have yet to use it with my Contax N. Will let you know tmr. :)

[update] Took the N85 for a shoot today. I am missing focus on a number of shots. Only the center AF is usable. When switched to off centered AF, most times the confirmation does not comes on. Also the lens seems to front focus. In the heat of the moment, I did not dial in micro-adjustments to test. The spot metering is also erratic. Meter on face comes out the subject becomes dark. Maybe I am yet to be familiar with the 6D but I do not face this problem with the 5D3. Maybe I will revert back to 5D3 so that I can use my Contax N reliably. Oh dear! Oh dear! Oh dear! Thanks for reminding me to check.
