Hi all,

Just found my dad's very old 35RC and is very tempted to play around with it... know that is used to take pin sharp pics when I was young and going on family holidays... problem is I have been taking too many digital pics and do not know where to start like what kinda films is good for this cam...

Also the replacement batt is gonna be a problem as it uses some mercury batt which is no longer manufactured...

Just thought I see if anyone use this here to find some advise with... thanks and have a happy chinese new year!!

sorry mate, that was a camera I used to have when i was a young boy. My camera has since departed, the mercury battery leaked and has spoilt the innards. I remember using Kodak film, daylight type, ASA 100 or so. BW works well too.
That was truly a cool camera.

cheers

Hi there... man.. just when I thought I found a kaki... haha mercury leaked heh.. my one, the batt have been in there for god knows how long man... anyway this camera is manual and should still work without the electronics right? Okay... later go buy some film and test... think I will use this as a backup camera...

PS know anywhere I can read up about all the different kinds of 35mm film? read the manual and do not even know what ASA is... hahha I am such a newbie...

used to own one some years ago.... you may want to check if the viewfinder needs cleaning and the light seals need replacing, a camera repair/service shop can do this for you. for replacement batts, no need to get the old mercury batts, just get the new batts which are commonly available. for film, u can try iso 200 or 400 fuji superia, or kodak 200 hd.

yah you are right.. the view finder looks a little mirky and the insides seems to have bits of black material loose which I assume is some sponge... any advise where I can get the camera serviced and tested for light seals? Also what would a good price to pay for servicing? :dunno:

you can try The Camera Workshop, Cam.X or any of the camera repair shops in the peninsular/adelphi area. Servicing should be around $100.

Thanks!! You have been most helpful!! Happy new year to you and may you and your family be blessed with good health!!

i recommend cam.x at peninsular for servicing, just got my konica auto s2 serviced by them. as for the mercury battery, i just bought a px625 from a shop at SLT basement. you can try your luck there, not sure what battery the 35RC uses though.

there are some other alternatives like modifying the camera to accept alkalines... you can do a search thru CS or the net for more info on that, not sure if it works.

you're welcome! happy new year to you too and happy shooting!

I don't know what is the name of the shop, but it is next to the escalator on the basement level, selling a lot of different batteries . Shouldn't be too hard to find it. I paid $7 for it (may have got ripped off somewhat, think i seen some posting listing a lower price :P) but, it should last me for sometime, so what the heck.

good luck in your search and happy new year to all too!
