Any one tested the abv at 49mm on a 7 series Dimage ? it is abt 4 mm ... est ....looks really cool

and on close up filters ... what are you using at this point of time and at what thread ? 49 mm ?

on a protective filter ... which would you recommend for the 7hi ? a clear ? a 1b ? or a uv ? I mean for the 49 mm.

Thanks

I don't use a Hoya Ultra CPL in 49mm but do use one in 77mm.

Optically you'd be hard pushed to find a better filter. It's colour neutral so there's no strange colour shifts that can occur with some PL's I've used. It's also extremely good in terms of flare reistance and optical flatness.

Build quality is first rate, as good as my B+W filters, with a nice smooth but firm feel to the front rotating element and filter threads that seem superior to their cheaper filters.

About the only minus with the filter is that the thinner of the two elements is the front rotating element and that there's no 'handle' to facilitate easy rotation. This however is a minor price to pay for the advantages afforded by the low profile of the filter. Note: you can't stack filters or a lens hood on the front of this filter, as there's no filter thread.

Thanks for the info .... but are you using a 7HI ? 77 mm would I think cost a bomb ?!?!

I don't use any digicams :) 35mm, medium and large format film cameras and a medium format digital.

tested the 49mm ... ultra thin Pro 1 Hoya CPL ... vignets slightly top right hand corner ... so have to zoom a bit ... it is not that bad ... it is really very slim ... but I blew about S$90 on this ... so far looks like it is the thinest.

I think this could be the best CPL for 7Hi for now ...

It depends if you make use of CPL ... don't intend to change too many times. It is really thin ... but still vignets ...

aww man! $90! ~whistle~ ...erm let me think abt it again huh....but after trying out the other filters i would tend to agree wiff snapper that the current choice would be the ultra thin....:D

Can guess it is expensive ... B&W ?

Seriously heard it is about twice the price of a Hoya of the same quality.

a 62mm b+w CPL costs ard 120 - 130, or that's how much i paid for it... (pls dun tell me i kenna ripped)

So any recomendations on closeup filters?

Also, which ND filters are the best?

My B+W UV filter has slight vignetting. Can live with it though...

There is a Hoya Pro 1 Skylight 1b which is very thin ... does not seem to Vignette (So far) ... but the price is a bout S$35

You found a teleconverter Lens for your cam yet ?

Be glad it's not a 52mm drop-in B+W CPL for a Nikkor 400 or 600 AFS. Those damn filters (when available) run close to 1000 SGD,(rrp is about 900 USD) which is considerably more than the 480 SGD for the Nikon filter.

I dare to challenge that at a LEGAL viewing distance, WITHOUT any loupe or magnifier, printed even at 8R, one won't be able to tell a shot taken through a Hoya SHMC or B+W UV filter. ;)

Make that at any viewing distance on any print size and make that Hoya SHMC, Heliopan, B+W or Hama multicoated UV filter. :rbounce:

It depends  Having compared both side by side using such things as 40 + 100x stereo microscope, video analyzers (sensitometers) etc I can honestly say that there's sod all difference between the two in actual use. However for those who insist on the German is superior misconception ... well what can I say ;)
