Anyone here able to verify this?

450D + Kit Lens + 4GB + Xtra Batt + Bag = $1140 incl gst--------> CP-M (24 Oct)

there was also reports of some store in lucky/peninsular (i can't remember) who basically insisted the guy hand over the cash before he could inspect the camera -and the box was missing a charger and battery.

the best part is - the guy paid up!

what?!? i didn't think that some shops would do such a thing. Misleading you into stuff not needed won't be that bad; as long as you make sure you get your "new" camera and walk out of the store. when you say spoiled before and fixed, would there be any way to tell that besides the smell thing? For example, if someone buys the camera and sees that one pixel of the screen isn't working, they sent it back to the shop and the shop repairs it, means there's a possiblity the shop(a corrupted one) will repair it and "resell" it again?

Hoho, welcome to the real world!

Bottom line is, there are reputable shops such as Cathay Photo, John 3:16, TK Foto, MS Color etc, then there are user-blacklisted shops, some of which include the shop that you mentioned in your first post. Also recognised as 'not completely honest' are AP and Bally. This is an opinion held by many photographers and enthusiasts. Some of their sales tactics and practices make me sick.

I supposed you meant "World Wide Camera Centre" . The shop at penisular ba.
Hmmm. The time when i wanna buy 450D , when the price is around 1350 average at the reputated shops , then its going for 1180! Gosh its like such a good price. But i didnt dare to buy from it.. seems abit fishy.

Then my friends helped me googled the name, i heard got some complains about the shop.
Better do some reading and researching, least the short change you . =)

Dont suffer the same fate as ME =)

------->Bally < ----------

Bally not good? I was going to get my camera from them..

as calebk mentioned, there are "reputable" shops and there are "not-so-reputable" shops, ready to jump on unsuspecting buyers. as always, caveat emptor, or "buyer beware".

I have sat in shops for 15min while the salesperson "went to the store to get the lens" and other salespeople tried to pitch other equipment to me.

the bottom line: always be on the lookout and do not part with your cash (or credit card) until you're completely satisfied with the deal you're getting. you CAN always decline politely and walk out. no point getting into an argument (or worse, a fight) over equipment (not just camera, can be computer, hifi, etc).

Yah. Money makes the world go round. Some people can do anything just to get that extra bit of money.

Also if you go to the more reputable stores, service would generally be good. And should you try something and say that you will consider, usually no black face la haha! And what you buy totally depends on you, they can give you advices and they wount force you to buy a particular item.

Where is John 3:16? Can't seems to find the shop when i visited funan last weekend. Despite people complaining Bally, i think they are one of the better shop. They offer the lowest price when i went and scout around. And they weren't pushy about their other products.

._.

They weren't pushy...yet.

I've seen, first-hand, how they managed to con a foreigner into paying the price of a Hoya HMC for a cheapo, unbranded filter.

John 3:16 is located on the 5th floor. #05-46.

Lucky i came and get some background info.. Or else i'll be the next carrot for them to chop.. ._.

talking about filters, how much would br the street price for a Hoya HMC? a guy from cp charged me 23 bucks for it...

agree that bally photo isn't too reputable a shop ...buying your cam from bally photo if you're a newbie, trust me, they don't give you the best price... before i came to this site, and didn't know that the street price was roughly about 1140 plus minus, i was almost tricked into buying from bally photo at 1299 .. they said they'll throw in freebie and stuff and "re-package", making them seem like a better shop . on the other hand, if you walk into cathay photo and ask them the price, they will tell you without much hesitation 1140... bragain a little bit more with your e-quote, you'll get 1117 (after 7% gst). my conlusion is, go to bigger shops like cp may help..

what size diameter? the 52mm ones are heck of a lot cheaper than the 82mm ones :)

Check the 'others' forum?

58mm HMC UV - ($25 - TCW)

And is there really a need to have (and respond to) 3 threads of the same thing on the same forum? :dunno:

sry, it was suppose to be on the price of the camera and it deviated away, supposedly different , anyways, it'll be easier for ppl to comment too; i guess.

but what do you guys think of hoya HMC filters though ?

It's a filter, for crying out loud. It's meant as insurance. HMC is 1 level lower in quality than SHMC. Basically slightly less light passes through (like, less 1%?) so the image has a chance of not having 'optimal sharpness'.

what filters do you use for you lens then?
b + w ? or tiffen ?

I bought my 1st film slr from that shop. No problem with that film camera.

However, after my 2nd camera from that shop, I boycott them. They promised that the digital camera I bought would work with Win95 when it didn't.

So, if you done your research well, you can buy from them but don't expect any after sales service or exchange.

First of all I use the filter that helps me to achieve the effect that I want / need. Otherwise no filter at all (except where I need protection for the lens, e.g. water splashes).
In terms of brands I used Hoya first. No issues with quality, just cleaning is PITA. B+W are easy to clean but not cheap. Decide carefully. If you don't need any filter just don't get them. Digital cameras don't need any UV protection under normal conditions.

My 17-40L has a 77mm Hoya UV filter (because I didn't have money then-- will replace if this one gets totally dirty / cracks etc etc) while my (new) 85mm has a B+W 58mm MRC UV filter (ie, pro-grade).

My 50mm f/1.8II had a cheap hoya filter (52mm) that had water splashed onto it while it had dirt. The result? Those dried dirty glass kind of effect. I gave it away, and the guy who took it from me actually used some solution to wipe it off for it to work.
