According to dpreview (link below, 2nd paragraph), its same sensor as C3 though admittedly de C3 is stated as 16.2MP but de 5N is stated as 16.1MP.

Actually I ve always thought it was de same sensor hence I wasn't considering upgrading my C3.

Not only that. C3 minimum iso is 200 while 5N is 100, so obviously different sensor.

using ep3 now. itchy to try this one. Really after the nex7. tempted to buy this for now...
anyone in the same situation?
:)

I already looked into my crystall ball and predicted whats going to be in my dry cabinet in next 3 mths. :)

Nex5N with 16mm as my day to day pns camera.
Nex7 with 18-55 and cz24/1.8 combo as my vacation, zoo trip camera with family.
A77 with new 16-50 and 70-300 ssm as my serious, fast af camera.

Cant wait.

Personally, I think its a different sensor, RAW output shows slightly cleaner high ISO pic and also retained little more details too.
besides what you are upgrading is not the sensor, you get

better jpeg output (arguably)
higher dynamic range
auto correction for chromatic, vignetting and distortion
Increase ISO range from 100-25600 instead of 200-12800
Touch screen to pinpoint focus and tracking through clicking on touch screen
1080P video versus 720P
reduced shutter lag
10fps vs 3fps?
can attach EVF
Magnesium Alloy body
can get a grip
Slightly longer battery life 430 vs 400 for Nex-5N

In other words, the improvements on the NEX-5N are substantial.

Should wait for the DXOMark score to be sure on the sensor rather than rely on a non-pro comparison using photoshop from a 3rd party site. For the manual focus lens crowd, who don't shoot movies, the significant features of 5N vs C3 from the previous list would be:

1. Increased ISO range (if you take a lot of landscape shots)
2. EVF (but it costs so much, perhaps one should wait for the NEX 7)

Things like auto correction, touch screen focus etc won't work with manual lenses.

When I bought the C3, I had already decided to get the 7 when it came out, but am now considering the 5N to keep it compact and perhaps pair it with Steve Huff's Summilux.

Got to play the NEX5N with New Carl Zeiss 28mm f1.8 E-mount lens during today Alpha 4 Gathering..Very impress with it..Also gd news to all NEX camera user, there is a new or should i say better A-mount to E-mount Adaptor with build-in SLT mirrors in it which we can now use all non SAM/SSM A mounting lens and old minolta lens with full fast auto focus..

did you also try the EVF for 5N?

in regards to the A to E mount, are you talking about this?

Yes got play with it..The EVF for NEX 5N is the same OLED viewfinder as use in the coming NEX-7, A77 and A65..

As for the New A-mount to E-mount (model LA-EA2 adapter if i not wrong) is a whole new concept by having a SLT mirror in the Adaptor to assist us in our fast auto focus..regardless of the lens got SAM/SSM..I can tell u it way better than the old A-mount to E-mount adaptor..Shown u some photo below..
