yep my 35mm is the AF-S version. for DX. but there are a few FX users around the world using it on their FX system. A quick google should yield you some sites. apparently there is only a slight vignetting when used with FX, which kinda adds a taste of artistic feel to it.

I last saw a 24 f/2.8 at Cathay Photo Marina Sq a few weeks ago. maybe i saw it wrongly, but there are quite a few wide primes there. you can probably head over there to check it out.

24 F1.4 cost as much as a 70-200 F2.8 VRII?! wow... so much for a prime len. haha

I like the way you phase it as i'm also using D700 now.

Hopefully there is somewhere i can test this len out before buying....

Be patient,I am sure there will be a 16-35 for rental @ Camera Rental,then you can slowly clear your mind whether you should let go your 12-24 or not.For me,I would think is the focal length is just what I need when I attach that lens for a shooting session?individual shooting style is important so I hope you can get what you need most and not regreting on purchasing lenses from time to time.cheers man.

It should be good (as u intend to upgrade in the future) if you dun mind the cropped FOV APS-C sensor (24-52.5mm) gives on FF. Since only the center portion is used..

However for prolonged stay with DX, i rather you gt the 17-55 f2.8 used for less, as its really in the middle of nowhere for this beauty on cropped sensor

If you are using a D300s and attach this 2 lens,then the 16-35 will become 24-52.5mm lens and the 12-24 would be 18-36mm,well you should ask yourself 1st,do you shoot a lot of wide angles?
I would personally suggest those using DX body stay on with thier 12-24 and those who are using a FX body,16-35 is one lens you wanna try out.I'm not saying that you can't attach a 16-35 on the D300s or other DX body yea?But is all up to your own shooting style at the end of the day.
Hope that you don't let technology confuse your judgment,always go and try them out b4 you really purchase it,and be happy with what you have.

A D300s is very good body and they will help you do color corrections,execute sharp quality and vivid color pictures cause the body itself already had a good chip made to do all that,so i don't think you have to worry about attach those 2 lens on it.MATCH = Just great.

just tried 16-35 around 6 ... @ cathay got 1 stock( quite ex, 1980 i think)
tried it vs 17-35 @ f/4 and f/8. the centre is slightly sharper, and corner is quite a lot sharper than the 17-35.
the 16-35 also a bit more saturated and contrasty compared to the 17-35
shot same setting and compared.
wonder if anyone who has both can comment on it

Have asked a few shops regarding this lens, there is 9% spread between the highest and lowest price quoted. Most shops only allocated 1 piece by nikon, and since there are many enquiry on this lens at the moment, some shops will naturally take the chance to mark up higher. But surprise to learn that even cathay also resorted to this.

Yes I believe that in this case, if you shoot both DX and FX, and you own a 12-24mm, the need for a 16-35mm will be subjected to scrutiny. (Talking about myself too lah

I am comparing the results of quality of the 2 lens in their respective formats and not their focal ratios.

I do. Results same as you do.
It somehow perform much better in terms of corner sharpness at wide open (17 @ f2.8 and 16 at f4) and very good to excellent in terms of center sharpness when stop down 1 to f5.6 and 2 more to f8. Colors are slightly contrast and vivid when compared to 17-35f2.8 :thumbsup:

I am surprised. The shop i got for was allocated 5 pieces..

whoa... usually the variance isnt so significant across the major shops. seems like novelty has a premium nowaday. it wasnt like this when the 70-200VR II was released a few months back.

Back to the issue of 16-35 vs the 14-24, my opinion is that the longer working range in the 16-35 is more useful than the 14-24 despite the F4.0 factor. In the current nikon FF cameras line-up whereby high ISO prevails, this would not be concern at all. the VR will also assist in low light condition and at low shutter speed.

Im thinking of getting one myself. any recommendation as to which store has the stock and the best pricing currently?
