IXUS30 picture quality is lousier, and the lens have corner softness though. Get FX7 instead

shouldn't be a major issue ;p i still have my slr to rely on if i need better quality pics. The supposedly lower noise high ISO settings of the Ixus 30 is attractive too besides the size.

I am not too impressed by the IXUS40... well, it has nice metal body, decent ergonomics and user interface. Digic2 very impressive, makes the camera very fast...

... but the lens is quite poor, very soft corners and lots of vignetting when taking high contrast shots in the sun. this leads to soft looking printouts unless you are prepared to do a lot of PP, something not most people using a tiny P&S is willing or know how to do.

The Leica lens of the FX7 is certainly much better and the OIS helps a bit to avoid handshake. My main complain is its terrible battery life. The IXUS40 does better in the battery dept.

In terms of noise, I have no idea... all slim digicams looks abt the same to me.
