Any users of the new Sigma 17-70mm F2.8-F4 OS HSM??

Hey guys, I am looking to get this lens soon. Just want to check if most of you have to send your lens for calibration with your camera body immediately after you buy for the lens to reach its intended IQ? Or if I am lucky, I will get a good copy which will work fine right out of the box?

Yes, you can try your luck and get a good copy. Or test bring the lens out for a shoot while testing its IQ and focusing. Anyway, if front or back focusing is bothering you, you can always bring it for calibration since its free (for local warranty).

I'm really satisfied with the IQ and focusing after calibration. :)

Good luck my fellow pentaxian!

Thanks for the info bro!:)

You can read up on this review:

"That said this new version features an improved AF motor ("hypersonic" vs micro-motor) and there's naturally the highly efficient OS - Sigma's optical image stabilizer - which is just as efficient as Canon's IS. The build quality of the lens is pretty impressive for a lens in this class and a nice contrast compared to the average plastic bomber here. The pricing of the Sigma lens is, as usual, highly competitive especially when taking the relatively large max. aperture in account."

Hope it helps.

Didn't own the older version but I am currently using the newer version. The IQ is good enough for me. You can take a look at some of my sample shots in the earlier post of this thread.

The newer version is more expensive because of the OS, better build quality, HSM and wider aperture at the tele end. If you think these factors are not appealing to you, then just get the older version. :)

wah i quite scared now :x ur first photo barrel distortion quite bad leh at the bottom right :\ 2nd pic sharpness is good though

For a zoom with this range, at its widest 17mm, barrel distortion is inevitable. According to photozone, the newer version has about ~3% at 17mm. The older version has approximately the same amount of distortion too.

Well, I can live with it. :)
