Any users of the new Sigma 17-70mm F2.8-F4 OS HSM??

Well to me its sharp! Especially when looking at it on photoshop at 25%. I dunno if this is true but in the printing industry, they say 25% view of the image in photoshop is the best view of the image when printed at 300dpi...i dunno...its what friend from the printing biz told me.

Its sharp to me too. But most lens is sharp from f5.6-8, maybe you can shld try from f4-5.6. :)

This one went soft or should i call that CA?

Or was it only because its not the one in focus?

Ok... now the 17mm wide open at f2.8... I tried to stop down to f4. Here are the results:

Please give me feedback if you think these 100% cropped images are already sharp. Im a super noob in the digital format. :( Now people can change ISO by a few clicks and turns... what im used to...you cant change ISO..coz its film...finish the roll first... if you use ISO 100...u need to finish all before you can go put a new 200 ISO film... hahahaha! Senior bros...please advice us... and other 17-70 OS HSM users...please give me your comments... I think my lens is pretty neat now after being sent to Sigma! :D

Got mine for $750 at Alan Photo Funan. You could maybe get it for less as I probably got charged the Ang Mo surcharge ...

@acevedre
Shoot on a same plane, for a picture stick to the wall.
Something like this:

(Picture in the camera, not the camera)
This will eliminate possible OOF due to the shallow DOF.
Thanks for sharing. :)

hi

where is the focus point? if it is in the centre, then at f2.8 the corners are usually not that sharp.... of course to be precise u will need comparison with pics from another same lens....

but at f8 and smaller aperture the corner better be sharp... haha...

How come this lens like not very popular among the photographers?
Thot its quite "ok"/"good"?
Not many ppl comment on this lens wor......
thinking whether to get this or 15-85mm....
IQ wise, i duno which is better tho.....

But since so little replying, i guess its IQ isnt that good?

Its a pretty new lens bro...only released last april i think....here in singapore... so i guess not many people have it...

its much earlier than that
it can be acquire in Jan in fact.
Out of stock in a couple of places
but no review or watsoever much from user.
read up from photozone, its inferior compare to 15-85mm, but cost vs perf, its better value for money tho.

Sharing some shots taken by this lens after sending it for calibration:

Really like the versatility. AF under indoor lighting is fast and accurate. IQ wise is definately good enough for normal prints. :)

Bro, if it's wide open and you shoot the subject at an angle, of coz a relative large portion is oof...anyway, where is your AF here? The old version is sharp even wide open... the most obvious weakness I see in your post above is chromatic aberration...can confirm any improvment of this from the prev version?

Hey guys, sorry to bring back this thread. I'm amuse by this lens and thinking of getting myself one but than has anyone uncounted any problems with this lens? for e.g. the non consistent f2.8 ?

I find the lens sometimes sharp at f2.8 while other times not very sharp at f2.8... :dunno:

Have booked a time slot to bring it down for calibration... ;)
