I bring it along with me all the time. On days when I'm not going to carry a bulky dslr. :)

I'm new here! And wanted to ask more before deciding. I'm interested into taking really nice decent photos, and i was thinking this P5100 might just suit my needs good enough. Can take good nice view of photos that are far (scenery) and probably easy to maintain.. Am i right?

But just one quick one, do you reckon i should wait for the IT show to be coming in March before getting this camera or the wait is probably not going to be worth the effort? I have asked around..

With similar packages,
1) Alan's Photo - $480
2) Peninsular - $470
3) TK's Photo - $510

all inclusive of GST. Was wondering also how much it cost at HN now.... and if its worth the extra warranty inclusive if i get from HN?

Hi theodore,

If you have looked at the images ortega has shown here using this camera (and I guess you have),

You will see that the camera is very capable of great results,

Subject and composition of the photo's is of course the guy behind the camera :bsmilie:

My great dissapointment with the camera is the slow auto focus lock and at times no lock.

I decided to keep the camera, but use my trusty old Fuji F810 for p&s photo's as it is much better at it.

I know there are many that would dis-agree with this statement, "look further".

Cheers :)

I got the camera already. Still fiddling with it yet.. But I'm actually new to using such a complicated camera... :-) Might need some help and guidance here...

1) What's the best mode to capture decorations... (Chinese New Year Decoration actually... planning to walk right into Chinatown either today or tomorrow... and start snapping!!!)? I find that the pictures that were taken without FLASH on looks good too.. was thinking if i should take away flash when i take such photos... learning.. learning and learning..

2) How about taking photos/videos of the Fireworks... CNY Countdown!! :-) Any recommendations too?

Hello guys, want to ask if anyone tried using the wide-angle lens with the adapter with the p5100. Is it sharp and clear.

Hello guys, want to ask if anyone tried using the wide-angle lens with the adapter with the p5100. Is it sharp and clear.

I went to try a 3rd party wide angle adaptor and the original Nikon wide angle adaptor.

For the 3rd party, they have an adaptor mount that opens to a 52mm size where one of those wide-angle adaptors can fit on it. The quality of the pic was not good, and the 3rd party wide angle adaptor changed the colors and white balance... and became too cool. The cost of the whole adaptor ring and wide angle adaptor is about $160 from AP Funan.

Then I went to try out the original Nikon ones at CP Peninsular. The pictures were much better and clearer than the 3rd party ones. I've since deleted all the shots I've taken, but from examining it when I took the shots, the picture quality was good. The original Nikon stuff would cost about $218 for the adaptor ring and wide angle adaptor.

If you're gonna spend so much, go for the original stuff. Also, because of the high price, it turned me off from getting it... the price of this cost almost half the price of the camera ;p

i have some pictures i took with the nikon p5100 wide original wide angle converter...you guys can view it at www.appleture.blogspot.com.
i must say i'm quite happy with the quality of the pictures.

Very very nice pictures taken with p5100, appleture. really amazing such a small camera can take such nice pictures.

Hello all, i found that this camera has a problem with the live view (CCD?) when it is pointed to direct light.
There is no flare but a streak down the LCD screen.
When you take a picture, the picture will not have the streak, but when a video is taken, the streak is recorded.
Do you guys have this problem too?

Hi Blackdrakes, yes i have the same problem too...but i guess its ok as long as the pictures doesn't have the line when turned out...i seldom take videos so its ok for me..

how much was it from Lord's?

Some of my test shots after purchasing this little compact. I find that the focusing was a little lag as well as its writing time onto the SD card. There were some shots taken while the camera was still trying to focus with the red led light, so I could see my subjects with a beam of red light.

Other than that, the picture quality is good! For this compact size camera and an affordable price!
