Going to try the Manfrotto 190XProB and Vanguard 263AT today.

I went and wanted to try the above but didn't buy either of them. Bought a Veldon instead.

I like the size and I can carry it easily for me. Price $180 from K13, Peninsula :thumbsup:

Hi guys. Am in the market for a reliable tripod. budget is 120-150 bucks. Will be mounting 50d+grip+possibly telephoto primes on it in the future. any ideas?

I think the most decent one you can get at 270+ is Slik 713 CF II (carbon fibre).
It looks to be quite value for money (sold at CP)

Do consider the Velbon's EL/Neo Carmagne 530 series too which is similar to Slik's 713 CF. I went with Velbon's cuz of the capability of folding and unfolding of the sections simultaneously, just like Gitzo.

Honestly, I can't remember but you can call up or go to this shop at 2nd level of Peninsula Plaza called K-13 Marketing... just right in front of the escalator. He has good deals for tripods. Got my Neo Carmagne 614A there. 513/514 is slightly shorter and remember it being considerably lighter, great for travel. I might actually get it too. Basically, for Velbon, x13 is 3-section and x14 being 4, latter is more compact when folded but maximum height is shorter. Yes, they're the Carbon Fibre models.

BTW, I don't remember CP selling Slik 713 for just $270+ ... that seems like a good deal actually. And I vaguely remember the Velbon 513A is at least $300.

Oh the slik one is because it's a promo by CP, hence the attractive price. Cool, i shall check out the shop. Hope to get a good CF tripod. Just curious, does anyone have any opinion on slik tripods (as to whether they're durable, sturdy, quality build, or not reliable).

As I mentioned, the CP promo for the slik 713 is tempting..

Oh... I see, if you're on budget, I'd say GET IT... maybe I should too actually for travelling. Personally, I'd go either with Slik or Velbon and both of these are reliable enough to be used by professionals I've worked with. Besides, they're also amongst the most reputable brands for tripods anyway. Of course there's Gitzo but it's beyond my budget for a tripod. Don't forget you have to spend on the head too.
