any newbie in Pasir Ris too ?

a little hard to teach becos compact camera what type?
should do some read out first

I started with compacts too, the tiny Minolta. Somehow it still manage to capture nice pictures but of course, there will be lesser control by the photographer but still its a good way to learn about framing and all. Those lessons are invaluable.

I only switched to DSLR a couple of weeks back and am still struggling with settings

I think you are definately qualified. I'm a newbie of newbies well... Anyway I'm using S80. I suppose that allows me some manual controls over the shots ...
