I would like to experiment with Linux on a new laptop with centrino duo processor. Anyone knows of a good distribution which will take advantage of the latest CPU technolgies, wireless LAN, etc?
For newbies, Ubuntu has Synaptic Package Manager. Easier to use the GUI than command line. :bsmilie: Unless of course, you want to do more advance stuff or are working with the LTS which doesn't come with GNOME by default.

Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon/8.04 will do just fine as it has a recent Linux kernel, though any recent distribution will be fine. Ubuntu is generally easier for people accustomed to Mac OS X or Windows.

most of the mobo after 2004 or around there have ability to boot from USB devices. no need thumbdrive, even if you use a card reader with a memory card in it will boot.
