this is a photography forum one ... So it's only normal that members will give responses with photography in mind. Some knowledge has been reported as useless ...

the key word here is diversity, all sorts of people will buy cameras and all sorts of people will surf forum

dun expect everybody that come into this forum to be knowledgeable in photography

some may be member since x years but only log in once in a blue moon, some may not know how to google effectively

whether knowledge useless or not is not for you to decide for others, unless you are the financial controller of that person

Oh, my bad.. should read "Some knowledge has never been reported as useless" .. and it was and will never be subject to any financial decision. Knowledge is priceless.
I don't decide for others. If you bothered to read the common advices given here many many times you would have noticed that we specifically encourage people to make their own decisions based on factual knowledge and some thought process, instead of hearsay, rumours and funky advice of people who believe they can judge what a 'decent recommendation' to buy is - but don't give any justification why. It's the diversity of cameras that needs the thinking. The diversity of people is less relevant, light and the law of physics apply to all.
We are still waiting for your advice to TS.

i have to give it to you

TS's requirements are so simple, why must we make it until so complicated for him :dunno:

Maybe he has already bought something by now and happily using it while you are still trying to justify the compulsory step 1 to step 9 of selecting a camera based on this and that and what not

Hahaha, Very well said!

Generally, gurus simplfy things... some hopefuls complicate things...

Other way around. Hopefuls ask vague questions that lead to any number of complicated answers. Hopeful answerers anyhow mention a camera without knowing if the asking hopeful will be comfortable with it.

Gurus will try to teach the newbie how to decide for himself, otherwise he will be back every year with the same question like a baby expecting to be spoon-fed.

Wanna-bes try to slam the gurus because they are mostly empty cans. No content, just make a lot of noise to feel like their self-righteous rants are meaningful when in fact they just show the depths of ignorance.

people like you guys are the reason why there are so many mediocre "photographers" hawking their cheap and poor services. you say we're not making sense, while ignoring practicality and common sense.

you don't even give good advice, and call the words of wisdom of the experienced ones here "useless" (which is what you're saying).

you're saying that it's not important to know where your money is going. it's like plonking down millions of dollars for a condo touted to be the best in singapore, not knowing its location, only to find out later it's next to a landfill in the middle of nowhere.

knowledge is important. without it, you don't make informed decisions.

and it doesn't matter if TS already bought the camera or not. isn't this thread relevant to other newbies to find some information to make the right purchase?

if they are mediocre, they will be out of business, which should be ur least concern

i have friend who think camera phone is enough for his photography needs when travelling

i have friends who use dslr like a pns

their needs are fulfilled and are happy so am i suppose to say they are wrong

if you noticed, TS only thanked the guy who recommended WX50 and has since MIA, obviously his need has been answered

when i bought my first pns i din know my shooting style and just picked the one i liked most at the shop, but i used it happily for x years. was i wrong?

it is good that some guys here like to showcase their knowledge n passion for photography, but know your target audience

do you think someone who is looking for a sub $500 compact really care much about his shooting style and etc etc?
