Hi,
I'm leaning towards buying a D90, but its grip feels slihtly chunkier than the D80. The shop assistant was trying to push me to Can 450D because it is lighter "and better for females". I have fairly big hands, so still leaning towards D90, but just wondering how any women here find the D90. Is it tiring on the hand because the grip is large or is it fine?

I think there are plenty of female D90 user out there... When I'm doing the survey on this D90, I did saw some female checking on this D90. As long as you're comfortable with the weight and grip... just go ahead.... ;)

Hi Hi. I'm new to DSLR.. and I got D90 just couple of days ago. Just went for my first outing with it today.. and I must say, it's much lighter than I had first thought.. and i hv no prob with the grip. :)

I find it a bit bulky though, but maybe coz i'm small build.. :X

Personally to me, if you like photography, weight or size should never been a consideration. Whether your female or male, a photographer is a photographer regardless of sex. Price yea... haha thats a different story.
But thats just my weird little logic =)

well, i'm a female d90 user and i personally think that weight shouldn't be an issue for photographers (be it for guys or gals). i shot events with my sb-600 and kit-lens and so far I find the grip and the weight comfortable. :D It was never a problem!

well, buy something you really like because at the end of the day you're the one paying for it.

During the photo shooting in China Town for Chinese New Year market, I noticed a Caucasian woman carried a D3. That actually surprised me a little :D

I have rather small hands and I find the D90 very well designed ergonomically. I second the part abt buying smth you like. If you like it, con also become pro :)

I am befuddled by this question - some women have bigger hands than men lah, so how can any answer enlighten you?:nono::blah:

some women. But the one i saw was probably not. I judged her hand's size based on her body's size. I witnessed that, you did not. :nono:;p

Isn't it easier to just go to the camera shop and hold the camera and "feel" it, rather than go around guess-estimating what size hand can handle what camera? Also each person's body composition and tolerance level is also different.....

Yah, that would be the best way.

seems like there are a lot of D90 female users here. should we form a group here? hehehe

hahaa. a d90 female group? then we all should go out on an outing together. :D

few months back, during photoshoot at tangjung pagar, saw a lady holding a D300 walk pass.. it's so cool.

this is really up to personal preference. not all females have the same hand size.. so it is best if you just select the camera based on your personal preference.

to be honest, most cameras are light enough to hold comfortably for long periods, especially since yoru body will be doing most of the carrying. no one really just holds the camera there for huge amounts of time, unless you are doing some form of coverage, etc. for casual shooting, 80% of the time, unless you are trigger happy the camera will be around your neck when you walk around.

get the camera that you feel most comfortable with. not all females like the 450d, not all males like the d90. it's down to personal preference, since it is after all, just a tool - a means to an end.

LOL this was one of the main reason that made me turn to the DARK side of nikon when I embark onto the path of DSLR. My orginal aim was canon 400D or 40D but 40D was abit ex and 400D the grip too small thou its light

lol, same as me. 400D and 40D body design and comfy different is just too huge. Nikon is able to bridge it nicely. That's why, i pick D90.

Wow, this thread has been a month old.
Has TS bought the cam already? =D

I own a 450D. Honestly, the grip is alright, but a little small. I added a Battery grip to extend the grip size and the weight. Of course, the D90, without a battery grip, is very comfortable to hold, due to the large size and it's slightly heavier, making the camera overall more stable. A DSLR, needs some weight as well.

I'm planning to get a D90 as well. As my second camera. I'm still thinking about it though, because i own a Canon and the lenses don't fit on Nikon, unless i use an adapter. So i'm thinking long term as well. Yes you are right, cameras, like the 40D or 50D are expensive. A 50D cost more than a Nikon D90 without a lens. Maybe it's due to where the items were made in? Thailand and Japan?

Get a camera, that you feel good with. Something that will not dissapoint you. That was how i thought of when i bought my first DSLR.

Canon 450D is indeed small, compact and light.

But when I put a D300 in my hands, the weight, quality of build, just makes The 450D like a toy. Looking at the menu, the 450D even looks more kiddish.

But since you haven't buy and have all the time to shop, try both. Rent both cameras and go out shooting.

i got to agree on this...but its a little harsh to compare the 450d and the d300 since they sit very different on the price bracket...

the best is to try it out all possible cameras..and depends on the wallet size :)
