I am having a trip to Germany (for training) next week and will have a day free in Freiburg area. I have been to Freiburg, therefore will not be walking around the town again. So, I am looking for some place to go, easily accessed via Freiburg, and somewhere nearer to Freiburg. I first had in mind to go over to Lake Titisee, but don't seems to find a lot of details of what to do there... Then I read about Triberg, which turns out the waterfall will not be accessible in Nov, so that's out.

Anyone who has been to Germany (or rather this part of Germany) and have some ideas for some photo sessions while I'm there.

Do note that I will not going anywhere which is not accessible by train or too long of journey (So, Koln, Munich, Stuttgart, etc will be out of contention), as I need to make a day trip for this one.

yo.. nice leh.. travelling again.. hee..

Yes, but it's piggy back on a training trip... As much as I would like to travel more... Only such opportunity to travel lor... But no one been to Germany, especially the South-West area where Freiburg is??

You might want to hop over to Alsace, France (about 30 km to the west of Freiburg town IIRC. Passport not required.) or to Basel, Switzerland (about 50 km to the south of Freiburg town IIRC. Passport may be required.) I have some photos of the places here:

Freiburg is at the southern tip of the black forest area, so one best way to explore is to actually rent a car and drive yourself in the black forest. There are several town inside the black forest that is rather interesting and can offer lots of photo opportunities along the way.

If not the town of Colmar is just 50 km west across the border.

There are also a few castles you can visit in Alsace, eg. Chateau du Haut-Koenigsbourg which is just north of Colmar.

As much as I would like to rent a car... Me on tight budget, which means I need a place which is reachable by train and walkable around the area...

Hmmm... Colmar or Alsace sounds interesting.... Would anyone knows how to get to there via train?

ARGH! I hate last minute planning... Kind of weird to be bugged by decisions for a 1 day trip!

Are you going alone, or you'll be going with other people? It maybe cheaper to just rent a small car and split the cost.

Nope, alone... So not that cheap! Apparently some parts of Germany got snowstormed... So, now... I guess, it might sound warmer to stay indoor!!!
Thought of going Schauinsland... But to do that, I will have to take the tram to the end of line, and then switch to Bus 21... Not sure if I would want to do that... if not, I guess if it really snow in Freiburg... It would be Freiburg in snow series then.... :D

Hi,

I'm currently in Germany but in Göttingen.

I'm wondering why you wouldn't consider rail to any of the places that u've mentioned as they are very reachable by DB.

In anycase, I'll be going to Stuttgart and Freiburg or maybe Triburg and definitely the Black Forest this coming mid Dec. and we're train-ning from Göttingen to Stuttgart and back.

I am PRAYING for snow....as i'll be doing a recee trip for a preshoot and hopefully a final shoot.

Now, i'm trying to find out how to get from the town of Göttingen to the Harz Mountains (other than bicycles and cars).... more of trains/bus/coach.... anybody has any idea?

Also, anybody knows which places in Germany or any websites that sells used medium format lenses, cameras, accessories and stuff like these? my German is still not up there yet to successfully decipher completely! help please too :)

Hi,

the biggest German website for DSLRs is www.dslr-forum.de with a nice marketplace , but as for medium format, I can't really tell.

I first had in mind to go over to Lake Titisee, but don't seems to find a lot of details of what to do there... Then I read about Triberg, which turns out the waterfall will not be accessible in Nov, so that's out.

My first thought was Triberg, too. Couldn't find anything that the waterfall will be inaccessible, where did you read that? usually it's open throughout the whole year, even during winter.

As for Lake Titisee, I guess it's the area around it that is nice, but nothing too special (at least for me, maybe you would think differently)

Edit: Just read a bit more about the waterfalls. They close them partly, meaning that you can get only to the lower parts, but not to the higher parts. Don't know how you're travelling, but if by car, you could consider going to the Vogtsbauernhöfe: http://vogtsen.land-in-sicht.com/
