Another overpriced shop @ Sim Lim

My advice:

Return the Digicabi and ask for a replacement - since it is not working and is obviously faulty. If they try to tai chi and ask you to go to the distributor/agent, tell them that it is your right to get a working product and not incurr the expense/trouble of getting a one day old product fixed.

As for the 4x in price wideconvertor, you may have limited remedies, but perhaps CASE can help you if you give them a call. I'm not sure if they still require a joining fee to help you though.

I beg to differ. I had a very nasty experience with Photocam at Peninsular. They are the only ones who were opened on Sunday and I went in to buy a Giottos 0.5 wide angle extension. I was charged $300 and a day later, I found out from CP that they sell it for $70plus.I was quoted 4X the price. I went back and they refused to give me a refund, saying that they cannot sell at $70 because they are a small shop. But at 4x the price!!! Makes me wonder if everything else is also inflated.

Anyhow, we settled on me topping up another $20 for a 30L Digi-Cabi. In the end I paid:$300+$20=$320 for (extension and Digi-Cabi), when I could have paid $70+$90=$160 for the same stuff. I was fleeced, went home to find that the hygrometer of the digi-cabi does not work and the humidifier condenses over. I have lost confidence in that shop and now I swear by MS colour,TCW and CP. I don't mind helping out small shops but I hate it when the shop uses that as a front for dishonest practices.

The price of being a newbie and not doing my research on CS.

btw, $320 for a 30L Digi Cabi is way overpriced also..

Digi Cabi prices found by CS member 'Robbo73'

DHC-040 = $198
DHC-060 = $228
DHC-080 = $278
AD-40 = $138
AD-80 = 208SGD (Carrefour)
AD-100 = 252SGD
AD-120 = 371SGD

Yeah, the 30L Digi Cabi is going for like $90-95. I call the money, tuition fees lah. Now I do my legwork. But really, a difference of $30-50, I would clock it down as the shop covering overheads. 4x the selling price is out to ketok me.

my own experience wif the shop i think u all talking about..........when i still newbie, they shld me this 67mm UV filter for $50 and a bag for $80 (later i found out only 30+ elsewhere)!!!!

Sign ... sim lim square... it is a war zone where either you kill them or they kill you ;) therefore highly not recommended for newbies or if you are not familiar with the prices. Also, the parking fees will also kill you too!

Do homework before buying lor, everytime hear this also sad.,

SAD FOR ALL WHO GOT FLEECED... :(

AND TO ALL WHO FLEECE... BOO!!! ;( :sticktong U WILL LOSE MORE THAN U GAIN...

Sori to hear that, I was served by a guy called andrew. He quoted me $1350 for a 350D kit and his pricing for other stuff like lowepro bags was relatively reasonable in comparison to the price list stated in CS. But anyway, i do scourge around for prices b4 i commit to the purchase.

I was served by a tall man, rather young with slanted (so rather doleful-looking) eyes. In the same shop, there's another stockier built middle age man who always sit outside by the tripods. I don't know their names, but it doesn't change the fact that they were out to scam me.

I may look like a carrot, smell like a newbie and not armed with CS knowledge, but they must also have the intention to be dishonest before the scam can take place. Does not change the fact that they quoted me $300 for something that cost $70 knowing full well it is not an ethical practice. Takes two hands to clap, man!

Honest salespeople know that someone is choppable but chooses not to do it. I appreciate that and I have since emptied out my bank accounts and maxed my credit limits to feed my photography addiction at places I consider honest. For $300, they have lost businesses in the vincinity of 8k and counting. Is that wise?

I know that they have their overheads to cover and cannot quote prices so low that they make a loss. Problem with technology is, the price can slip southwards really fast and that is the reason why some items in certain shops are so much more expensive, as the goods are not moving out of the shop as quickly as the prices slips. I love to patronise small shops even if I end up paying more, as these shops would give giants like CP a run for their money but I am not idiotic enough to be scammed again and again.

I stand firm in advising people to steer clear of Photocam in Peninsular Plaza, in the lane opposite CP. I call the shop PHOTOSCAM.

next time must organise a group of 10 clubsnapper and go inside shop to play play. haha

Hmm...Photocam.... my collegue managed to get a camera bag cheaper than CP's price... Perhaps they see ppl blur then ke-tok them.

If want to put them on blacklist, go ahead n do so with CASE(even though u spend another $10-25 more to report) and post threads on any forums.

Have to banish such dishonest shops tat puts SG on a bad light.

Oic, feel angry and sori for u too. ;(
The sales person andrew who attended to me was not tall but abit charby. I think i know who u r toking about. the 1st time I went there and that tall guy quoted me a different price for a 350D...
I think those blacklisted shops will realise in time tat this is not the way to do business. Wat's the point of making a one-time profit at the expense of losing return customers. Stupid rite.
Will help u feedback to the shop if i go there again.

Hope you guys have learned by now NOT to shop from most of SIM LIM camera shops
(exception for Alan Photo maybe)........I never buy camera related stuff from there, or only Sandisk Ultra II CF cards which were the lowest at Active 4th floor and pricing WAS according to their price list.......

Apart from Alan Photo, I trust no other SLS camera shop.
Most people I know have good experience at Alan Photo.

Even then, I trust Cathay, MS, TK and John 3:16 more than Alan.

RS

My friend had a not so good experience with this shop as well with a missing charger when he bought his DSLR. He saw them taking everything out when showing to him but didn't
monitor carefully when they were packing things back into the various boxes.
Boy did he go through hell complaining with them and later got a charger back
(only after 3 weeks)! He had to come over to my place to charge his battery
during those 3 weeks :bsmilie:

Now I also double check to make sure everything is still in the box every time I
buy something before leaving the shop! Anyway I only go to SLS to buy computer
parts. Won't go there for camera stuff.....

I've had good experience with Cathay, TK, and Lords, thought for the
few items I purchased so far I managed to negotiate the best pricing with TK
and Lords. Cathay and John were slightly higher.

Anyhow, I would advise everyone to double check the pricing with a couple shops
before buying...... If not, you may end up pay much more

wahlan the quote nikon 50mm 1.8 at $252,

next time, if you need to cheer yourself up, go there and laugh at them :bsmilie:

haha feel sry for u...

seems lyke on the first storey of Sim Lim, outside stores - are more likely to be tourist-scammers.

Today before i went into a shop, the store owner got anxious and tried to divert me to Funan IT mall. I looked in the shop and obviously it was a pair of Eurasian couple.

They were the only ones in the shop so it seems the shop owners didnt want any locals in there foiling their overcharge.

Personal Experience:

It was Sunday Noon 12pm, My good friend bought a wide converter lens for $330 in SLS 2nd floor, end up that piece of glass is only $95. Best part, the sales "Beng" proclaimed this, if you can find cheaper ones, I will give you for free... Then my friend was a newbie, did not ask me and buy straight away... anyway, he went to the AP to buy a lense bag and ask for the price also, just to double check, AP says they do not carry but such lens are roughly around $100.00. My friend was very angry, but just to confirmed, he went to another shop selling the same stuff and we told $95 excluding GST... His blood boil liao... went up to the shop and ask for refund. The sales "Beng" at first try to siam, push to his manager. The manager "F-care" attitude turn my friend off... bobian lor, my friend decide to call his buddy down, it was then Sunday 4pm, alot of AngMo inside... they went straight in the shop and start talking English with the Ah Beng... The Ah Beng start using hokkien and stuff... but the 2 champion persisted in speaking English and finally, the Sales Beng lan lan... He offer 01 X 1GB to settle the matter... but my friend ask for 02 X 2GB.... after one hour the Manager buay tahan liao as those foreigners begans to leave... he allow my friend to take 02 X 1 GB Lexar 80X. Although still a minor loss, but at least you get something back.

Morale of the Story: To deal with this kind of Sales "Beng", you must be firm on your ground if you are truely being cheated over a large sum of money. Choose the right timing...:bsmilie: But frankly, kindly google for the market price before you head down to SLS, there are shops that is good and there are shops that is out to kill. ;)
