chinese la

Is that shop name 'focuspoint' or something like that ? I don't remember the name of the shop, I also had a problem when I went to enquire about Canon 30D / Nikon D200 price before I buy my DSLR. The guy there sits bluffing the price for D200 as 1600 and he said, I will tell you the exact price when you today. I asked my friends too, and they all had similar problem with that shop.

There are a few shops in sim lim where they make the reputation of sim lim bad. It may be their marketing stragtegy. Usually we, as a consumer goto many shops to find out the price, and finally compare. In sim lim many shops ask how much did you got, or do you want to buy. They won't tell their price. But the fellow shopkeeper may not know that he will get more business when he behave properly with the customer.

Other than some computer stuffs and a PNS camera bought from AP a few years back, I have always avoided shopping @ SLS. I would rather sacrifice the best deals for some good service and pleasant shopping experience.

Just my opinions.

I dunno about u guys, but i always check prices around b4 i purchase anything..... Anyway, i m those stupid types who would rather go shop by shop and check price instd of going straight into those recommended shops.

Ohz...That shop is the 1st one tat i go n check on the price.... He started saying $90..then i say okay....i'll look around..then he start slashing from 80 then to 75 then to 60... I tot i'm having a good deal so i bought....

Just check prices on internet 1st before buying. Yday i went down with receipt n internet price from Nikon website to show that dishonest liar. He then went on to say "we import from japan". After arguing for 10mins, i see that it is going no where. I just walk off wif a sarcastic thanks. Shld have say i'll get CASE to look into it.

I called up Nikon n e guy says TAT shop is not on their list of dealers...n he recommend to report to CASE if i want to.

If you are tourist, such situation have to report to Singapore Tourism Board. To report to CASE, member fee of $25 or $10(union-member). So if u feel that u really want to bring them down, $10 /25 is a gd "investment". --> www.case.org.sg

hMMmmm.... the shop receipt is The Camera Shop. Got Canon n Nikon logo on their signboard(still hv e cheek to do so). #01-43A. Opposite the gaming shop.

It is so fortunate that i found out this website before buying the rest of my photographic equipment..
I was sourcing around for a wide angle attachment lens for my fujifilm PnS..
Was told by my friend that it costs about $40.

I had a quote from Lucky Plaza at $200 too...
And I told them i could get a proper SLR lens with that money. He reduced to $150 and finally $40 when i was stepping out of the shop..
And of course, I never turn back.....guess the feeling already "buay song" liao..

I mean...com'on dude...I was speaking english and hokkien to him..and so obvious i am a chinese singaporean...STILL??? they wanna pull a fast one.

Shops at Sim Lim wasnt good either, quotes from $100 to $150 are still common for that $40 item.

wat! he initially wanted to chop u at 6X the price even! wat a black-hearted salesman

caveat emptor

If you did your research on cs and asked first, you wouldnt have ended up in this predicament.

Heh. Basket. These shop people really damn one kind.

That's why I die-die won't buy stuff from SLS, Lucky Plaza or Far East Plaza. Even the other shops at Peninsula Plaza/Shopping centre (apart from CP). Not only cut throat price. Attitude also horrible. :thumbsd:

As far as I am concerned, the whole of S'pore only got about 5 camera shops, and maybe plus the big superstores like Harvey Norman, Courts, etc. The others? Pui!

Do post your updates here after you have complained to CASE. This could help future shoppers decide on their next course of actions when similar incidents occur.

1) MS Colour
2) TCW
3) Cathay Photo
4) TK Photo

The rest u should avoid.

i'm posting this thread to warn other fellow photographers about a shop at Sim Lim Sq.

I had an experienced very recently with a corner shop at the 1st storey of Sim Lim Sq(near the bubble lifts)< Quite obvious it is a Camera shop

I bought a wireless remote from them and only to found out 3 days later that i'm over priced by 4times.

I went down with the recommended price printed from the camera's official website. What the guy can do is just say that they import from Japan. I asked for prove and he decline. Just say that they import and selling at that price, they are losing money.

Going down to CASE and blacklist them...

Lesson learnt. Check price before going out to buy.

I beg to differ.
Do check out prices at a few places b4 committing anything.

Song bro is getting competitive, but depend on the sales person. Some of their items are priced ridiculously while some are cheaper than the above mention shops.

Photocam at peninsula is ok, look for andrew. Got my tripod at $170 from him where CP and AP quoted me $255++

the sony corner by Dynasty Audio @ sls 2nd level has quite ok pricing as well, they dont have the wide range of lens but at least they are authorised dealers for Sony and Canon :)

I would leave out the 2nd one.

Authorised dealers doesn't mean honest. I'm not saying DA is not honest, but authorised dealers cannot be used as a means to prove a shop is honest.

In short and simple terms...

One should buy with these rules in mind:
  1. CHECK OUT THE SPECIFICATIONS OF THE PRODUCT(S) AND THE RECOMMENDED PRICING VIA ONLINE OR ANY SUITABLE MEANS...
  2. DO PHYSICAL WORK BY:
    • VISITING THE SHOPS IN PERSON
    • OBSERVING THE SALES PERSONNEL
    • ASK & TAKE NOTE OF THE QUOTED PRICINGS
    • THEN TAKE YOUR TIME TO THINK, COMPARE AND MAKE YOUR DECISION WHERE TO BUY FROM...
  3. GO WITH YOUR DECISION, CHECK THE PRODUCT(S) AND PAY UP...
THESE MUST ALSO BE IN YOUR MIND
  • ALWAYS STAY AND BE IN CONTROL... NEVER BUY IN HASTE... DON'T BOW TO THE PRESSURE...
  • NEVER LET THE CHECKED PRODUCT(S) OUT OF SIGHT...
