Of course, they can introduce new sensors with different pixel densities but they have tended to use certain pixel densities in sensors of different size ...

I remember that as the densities increase, the noise usually increase too.
Could that be why the 21MP 1DsMk3 have strangely more noise than 12MP 5D?
With improved sensor design, microlens design and reduced voltage, the sensor can bring down noise despite the increased MP.
The D700 and D3 stuck to 12MP in their new design to keep noise REALLY low, can the new 5DMK2 expect to achieve the same with double amt of MP (and noise?) ie can a 21MP FF sensor achieve the same amt of noise control as a recently released modern FF sensor (D3,D300) with 12MP? Lets wait and see!

I agree that too much Mega Pixels is mostly an overkill..... But sadly most of the camera makers believe that it is a 'one up' against other camera maker. With Sony A900 going to 24MP..... Canon & Nikon would be hard press to explain why they wouldn't do the same.....

For me.... I want a FF Camera with no more than 12-15MP.... nosie-less photo up to ISO 6400. With BIG memory buffer so that I could shoot RAW at around 3-4 fps up to 10-15 Raw photo before I have to stop.

But..... dream on, dream on, dream on........ :sweat:
