Just some observations:
Body cap is the hard black bf1a, not cheap translucent white as feared. Sticker on cam bottom doesn't say made in thailand.
If it is made in Japan.. the Made in Japan would either be molded to the basep-plate or a sticket with Made in Japan would be aparent.
Only say's Nikon Japan.
Beachboy - was fun shopping in CP.. and getting to know you.. hope you have great fun.. and you will not regret the SB800.. eventhough you had to pay extra $$$ to get it.
This are my observations so far of the D70 vs D100..
WOW.. the D70 sure rocks.. I decided that after some rational to let go of my booked unit..
Anyhow.. here are some of the things I noticed when doing a side by side with my curve adjusted D100
1. WB on the D70 is more accurate then on my D100 on auto.
2. Colour reproduction is more crisps and true to natural. Very nice tonal range for asian skin.
3. It is light.. and the feel is good.. the grip is solid and firm. Plastic doesnt dent or warp under pressure. Very solid PolyCarbon molded body.
4. The moulding of the body is really awesome.. no creaky plastic feel.. feel very like the D100
5. The kit lens.. the 18-70 is awesome.. quality is what you would expect. It feels solid.. and the feel is very nice.. (sure beats the crap of the 18-35 EF-S Canon lens) This lens can go places and last.
6. click.. click.. click.. click.. click.. tested that 144 frame buffer.. it really works.. Yowzers!!!
7. the 18-70 is solid.. users of the AFS24-85 will get the almost same feel. Do expect some barrel loosening with use.
8. FTM m/a is a breath of fresh air.. Nikon has been known to do stupid things.. like maybe not include this feature?
9. Both bodies and lenses are made in Thailand.. or rather assembled in Thailand.
10. Filter thread size is 67mm, prevelant with Nikon's new weird standard. AFS-24-85 is also 67mm.
11. Images on the D70 cannot be view properly on the D100.. probably due to how the images are processed and stored on the CF card.
12. CF chamber doors are mode solid and seem to be able to handle more wear and tear then the D100's..
13. % of spot metering sensitivity is awesome..
But alas.. The D100 is almost.. (already 2 years).. and the Dx00 is already rumoured to be strong to make an appearance soon.. So I shall wait and see.. to replace my D100? perhaps..
And.. most of all.. Thanks Ansel for letting me man handle your D70.. very nice.
