got it. it feels similiar to my d100. the on/off button (matt silver) area looks and feels similiar to my 5400,5700. the cf door, i like, feels robust. the lens, plasticky. i'm impressed with the injection moulding of the plastics.seams align and the back plate even feels like magnesium. it appears that there are bits of oil/mould release agent that needs to be cleaned off, but 'm nit picking.

most importantly, at iso800, : ) fantastic.

iso 1600 artifacts show, but for general usage, acceptable. my PERSONAL OPINION: at 1600, similiar to d100's 800. you decide. my coservation was based on pix with the 10.5mm.

So overall, does the body feel too plasticky? Polycarbonate is plastic, right?

Is this cam made in Thailand? How about the bundled lens? Where is it from?

by this evening. i'm on the way to pick up my 80-200vr and hoping to get the 12-24 2.8 at the same time and a bag. couldn't get everything into my bicycle's baskets earlier as i was carrying eggs and bread as well.

by then, i'm fairly certain that there will be the first few already.

Does affordable DSLR spelled doom for high end prosumer cams such as the CP8700??? With both selling at $1888 and a little bit more investment in lenses you are in a different league.

Jus a thought.

plasticky, it is not. not for the body of the d70.

started shooting out of the box, all pix appear to be under by 1/3-1/2 stops. assuming it's to prevent blown highlights.

lens says nikon corps, hood says made in thailand. but it's sufficiently smooth for plastics, kinda like the 'e' series, even with the dx swm ed if asp designation. there's a tad feeling of gumminess from wide.

just got it from TKFOTO. Bought from their website. I just sms them and they sent to my house today. Price at $2100 nett. What price did you all get? seems like the price the same. not sure if they sttill have stock but if you guys want just sms and try. i got their sms line 93857244 from jackel who bought the 300D from them.

Thanks for the initial feedback...v. interesting read, keep them coming, congrats also for being one of the first to get hold of this camera, guess its gonna be selling like hotcakes from today.

Wondering how's the AF speed for the body + kit lens? Interesting to see how it would match up to Canon 300D and its kit lens.

Hope to see the pics soon....maybe u can try some indoor/outdoor shots at variety of f-stops and ISO values...curious to know how noise-free the images are...

Each will have their market, DSLR are for serious hobbyists, the price of D70 + lenses to cover the range 8700 can, will be above 3K.

The D70 uses the AF module same as F80 & D100. AF speed should therefore be around the same if not better? :dunno:

Don't worry, the 18-70 is a AF-S lens, SWM so fast one lar. :cheers:

it's feels significantly faster than the 300d.

toggled the settings a bit and i'm getting nice bright SHARP pix. indoor iso 800 without flash, just ambient light.

happy, happy.

got the 80-200 but no 12-24... if they still can't get it for me by 7.00pm, i'll get the sigma instead. *bleah*

was close to getting the sca adapter for the metz, but fortunately i didn't. don't see a need for it as yet. mebbe later.

Body cap is the hard black bf1a, not cheap translucent white as feared. Sticker on cam bottom doesn't say made in thailand.

Customer just got and stopped by the shop, not nice to handle it too much, so didn't mount lens & check viewfinder etc.

The CF door is a bit nicer now, spring loaded and the catch is a separate piece, not 1 pc with door. CF eject also different.
