Android users unite!

HTC Wildfire user here with custom Gingerbread (Android v2.3) ROM.

Battery life lasts easily beyond a week with WiFi and 3G turned off.

I bet it lasts even longer powered off, but that's not very useful, either.

buy some casing or new batt for her? Haha

Took my nexus one for a run yesterday night. Put "her" in my well covered running armband handphone pouch. Then started raining in the middle of the run. Long story short. Somehow it started having a few drops of water coming outfrom the micro USB area below ( seriously I thought it would have been from the top )

Could not load the bootloader. Baked it under hairdrier for 30 mins. And tadah back in action.

I love my nexus one.

The desktop market version is live... visit the link and start downloading...

one thing i cant figure out is why htc in its infinite wisdom decided that apps like plurk, footprints, etc all need to be started at boot time. i set up startup cleaner 2.0 to kill it at start time but that didn't work. now have rely on task manager to keep kill those darn apps.

You can uninstall it from your system. Use root explorer and remove the physical files :)

Hmm, I could not click on "Top Free" on my PC, anyone else got this problem? I tried on both Firefox and IE, can only go to the "Top Paid" tabs

Wow, the new Android Market is on the PC is even easier to download than Appbrain. It sure beats iPhone hands down when comes to downloading apps.:thumbsup:

Does it store the applications on the computer before transmitting them to the phone? Otherwise, Android Market still sucks (compared to iTunes) since you could lose your applications and not be able to restore them.

It goes straight to your phone.

For those who are familiar with Android, all you have to do, is go to Download section of your Market to re-download your applications, if you changed to another Android phone, just login with the same Google account you used previously.

Otherwise, you can download other application manager to help keep track for you. AppBrain is quite good.

Froyo syncs all your downloaded applications and auto downloads whenever it detects missing apps. I've installed many custom ROMs on my phone before and sometimes requires me to wipe all the data from the phone and delete all the apps, and when I get it back up again all my apps are automatically downloaded.

Yeah... But, it seems if you have two phones, it may get a bit confusing. Since I may install different to different phones. If it did not auto-sync properly, try check the Download or "My Apps" to check.

My Nexus One seems to auto-sync properly, for my SGS sometimes it does not. Though this could be Samsung have changed something, as it sometimes need Samsung KIES. However, 3rd party app manager can solve this this for you.

Thanks, so it is clever on the one hand, but not particularly good.

I use AppBrain and it's helpful with updating installed applications, but neither it or Market will save the apps on the computer, where they won't cause more downloads. It would be understandable if an Android-based device was your only device, but a computer is a convenient place to store things.

Nothing is stored on the computer.

Apps paid or free that were installed on ur android are tagged to ur google account. I cleaned wipped my nexus one once, and I just need to login the same Google account with my nexus one and every app auto repopulates as it is. No need to go thru PC.

I do not know how iPhones do it

(Illegit android aps will not)

I think, storing mobile phone apps in PC is an old concept. These days, almost everything is on the NET, and that will be future as well. Just use Google account will keep track of the list of apps you installed, so really no point to keep them in PC or on a 3rd device.

Since a full wipe or flash the phone with new ROM may needs to reinstall all the apps. Having it keep track by a remote server is more convenient than storing it into the PC. I had performed ROM upgrade while I was travelling in train. Once I reach office, my phone was upgraded with the latest ROM.

Just curious, if the PC/Mac dies, does it mean you lost everything or simply just download everything again once you use a new system? If it will download for you again, then there is really no different. Apple just added another intermediate apps for your iPhone to sync, which quite frankly, pointless. Why is there a need of this "middleman"?

These days, even my phone contacts are sync to my Google's account. Changing Android phones and retaining my previous setting is quite effortless (You can choose to save them, and manually transfer, if you prefer).

Not to mention about freedom after rooting... Once you tasted the joy freedom, you really don't feel like going to jail... ;)

Yup, and for rooted phones, you can also backup your data and system onto your SD card and restore it via recovery, so you don't need to auto sync and redownload your apps.
