Amos Yee vs Steven Lim

Are you saying that molesting and raping (= crimes) are going on unchecked in Singapore prisons?

Please refer to any crime novel to be enlightened on this matter. :)

This is a perfect example of the stupid freedom of speech. (Speaking without consequences)

Those advocates and believers of freedom of speech, take a good look at Amos. U want people to end up like him, talking without using their brain?

So what its in the American constitution??? That doesn't make a Holy Law.

Laws are man made. What can put in, can be taken out.

Like it or not Amos Yee, Steven Lim, Yaw Shin Leong etc are all products of our system. :)

Are you saying that molesting and raping (= crimes) are going on unchecked in Singapore prisons?

Are we saying that bullying in schools are going on unchecked?

hehehe I rest my case.

The councillor need to clear his name if he really did not molest him. His reputation and job has been put in the line by his accusation. He had help to bail him out and now that's how he return his kindness? Put yourself in his shoe and are you going to do nothing about it ?

Turns out...

Steve Wozniak, co-founder of Apple, said a company like Apple could not emerge in societies like Singapore where “bad behavior is not tolerated” and people are not taught to think for themselves.

“Look at structured societies like Singapore where bad behavior is not tolerated [and] you are extremely punished” Mr. Wozniak said in a recent interview with the BBC. “Where are the creative people? Where are the great artists? Where are the great musicians? Where are the great writers?”

...con't from link.

For such an intelligent guy Woz sure is ignorant...guess he has never seen any of your photography my brothers....Many many westerners have this same sort of misconception about Asiana...talk about close mindedness...these folks will get further and further behind and become irrelevant...if they aren't already.

I apologize for the double post and perhaps straying OT but I was just thinking...Woz been in Singapore a couple weeks and probably in a high rise fancy hotel and catered too with extreme hospitality (and a fat paycheck)...what the hell could he truly know about Singapore and 'creativity' in Singapore?...I'm just saying...

strange comment from Wozniak.

a structured society where bad behaviour is punished, is otherwise known as a civilised society. some of the greatest musicians and artists (think J.S. Bach) flourished in structured societies.

Wozniak must also not heard of Jeremy Monteiro, one of the foremost and internationally respected jazz musicians.

or, in the world of photography, John Clang.....etc.

another example of a rather blinkered and condescending westerner who doesn't really know what he is talking about.

The fact that Singapore has produced 阿魔 Yee has proven Steve Wozniak wrong. :)

Well I got to thinking about these things again that Woz said so I decided to Google 'inventions of Singaporeans'. I have decided to not give any credence whatsoever to Woz when it comes to Singapore and possibly not to anything he says period. :bsmilie:

hehe walk a mile in the shoe. He is not that far off if you do spend sometime here. Looking at some nice photos here and there is not enough to tell you what he is saying about the business of creative and innovation. It also depends alot on who you asked and if you have spend some time here in the business industry. Creativity is pretty stifled and not conducive to grow or really encouraged. This is not the first time we have been under a microscope where it comes to businesses development and innovation. Any company that is able to get some kind of kickstart, not all got any backing for it and would go overseas to get the funding and also stay overseas like some did in silicon valley to growth their product line and business. There has also been talents that were lure back to Singapore to help kick started certain industries and then a while later fizzes out and they left.

We hav a habit of "buying talents" hoping that it will work and somehow it catches on here. And how many success stories have we gotten? You can Google the results for yourself to see how many has actually grown, how many has left or gone dark. Oh yes we also buy sportmen to help us win Oylmpic and Asian Game medals on the world stage since our very own has little interest or talent or drive to excel in sports. I should say sport is never very much a high priority by the authority to nurture and grow thus little in the way of funding. In fact from way back till today for most part, you are on your own to train and get your own financing or sponsorship. And sponsorship? Don't expect huge amount of money.

Woz is someone I would know, he knows what he is talking about MORE then Steve Jobs. If there was only one guy I like in Apple all this time, that's him. This is a guy who is like an investment angel into a lot of tech start-up ..etc. And he buys or help a lot of small innovators get started not just in US. So he is not silly to not know what he is talking about if he has to play invester for the better part after leaving Apple.

Woz make relevant comments abt Singapore.

Its true that we don't the tolerate bad behaviour, questioning authorities and doing things differently.

Our level of entrepreneurship and start ups are low. I won't say its nil, but it's v low.

There are a few factors contributing to what we are. And it's difficult to explain on this thread

Creative people don't make what Singapore is today.

Only smart people have done it for Singapore.

:)

That's why we are what we are today. Designed by smart ppl, meant only for smart ppl. Not for creative ppl.

This is THE problem
