So fast selling away E510?

Can I check with you guys, I cannot set my EV Compensation when shooting in Manual Mode? It is always at-5.0 when I am shooting indoors, ending up with my shots being very dark. Is it a automatic compensation? Cos when I shoot at brighter environment, the EV Compensation is around -0.3.

I am a newbie in photography. Can anyone explain this to me?

Thank you in advance.

In Manual Mode, you need to set the shutter speed and aperture yourself. If it's -5.0, means the settings you set are too fast/dark. So you adjust accordingly till the EV compensation shows a good exposure. So if you are at 1/1600s, f/8, and it shows, -5.0, you got to adjust accordingly to get a correct exposure. Hopefully my explanation is ok. I'm bad at explaining. :bsmilie:

If you want to use the EV conpensation, use Aperture/Shutter priority.

btw, just saw on the brochure from OCBC they offering 12 mths installment for e510 and free one month...

Of course you can't...because you are telling the camera what exposure to use; exposure compensation is to tell the camera to shoot above or below what the camera thinks is the right exposure.

In manual mode the display you are referring to as "exposure compensation" becomes a light meter (now called "exposure value")...when in manual mode the camera says it is -0.3 it's telling you the (shutter speed & aperture) settings you have chosen to take that picture are 1/3rd of a stop below what the camera thinks is right. Now that doesn't mean that you are wrong, if you want to be 1/3rd of a stop below. When the display is saying -5.0 and it's NOT flashing that means you are 5 stops below what the camera thinks is the right exposure...if it says it's -5.0 and it IS flashing, that means you are more than 5 stops below.

Try this experiment...set the camera to the point where is close to 0 (can be +/-). Now hold the shutter release halfway and point the camera at different things, a dark piece of furniture, the window, a light fixture that's on...notice that the exposure value number changes.

You may also notice in this experiment that when pointing at dark objects and then bright objects the intensity of the display in the viewfinder changes...this is NORMAL to compensate for the amount of light coming into your eye.

Hi, beside harvey norman, any other shop that I can pick up the E510 dual kit lens package?

Thanks!

hello! I'm a progressor from p&s to DSLR. currently have pentax K10D and Olympus E510 on my mind. both have dual lens kit and K10D is weather-proof. i'm a nature/abstract/underwater/IR/landscape/fireworks kind of photographer. foreseen to be getting wide angle/macro/fish eye lenses. need some opinions!

can i know which country is the E510 and its lens produced in anyway? and which shop offers the best E510 deals? :) thanks!

E510 - made in China. Kit lens for E510 not sure. All high grade & Super High grade lens - Japan. The original manufacturing country is no longer important if u believe on the quality control of the brand. We only go for the end results - features to remove technical limitation - live view & IS , SSWF proven dust buster let you have a ease of mind while changing lens and picture quality.

I'd say just make sure you pay less than S$1499 for the dual lens kit. I generally regard Olympus "offer" prices as the highest I will go for a set.

E510 and 14-42mm kit lens are made in china (not had any problems with my set so far). If you're country conscious, you'll be pleased to know that the old 40-150mm f3.5-4.5 and the new 70-300mm f4-5.6 are both made in Japan.

Nothing higher than 1499? Roger that.

Great piece of information dude

Lastly what is the standard package I should be looking at? Memory card? Bag?
