All About The Olympus E-510 Thread

Just realised how the NR get activated:
8" ISO=100
4" ISO=>200 :think:
not written anywhere, just have to find out yourself, or you can wait till the Advance manual which, don't know when.:dunno:

It is VERY obvious when the camera is doing darkframe subtraction cuz the mirror is up for like 2 times the shutter speed.
:nono:

The mirror will always up for the same shutter speed, while the image will only show up on the LCD after 2 times the shutter speed if NR is activated.

Yes, NR activates at 4sec (includes iso400 too); no less. Wonder will Olympus provide a fix to 1sec at all ISO? Even though it lengthens the write time but better than usable picture.
Can't figure out why such obvious problem was not handled when it was build.

Fire a mail to Oly JP and SG to tell them about the problem.

Should be easily fixed via firmware.

I got that noise before recently when I went with some a friend to shoot the closing celebration for the National Stadium. I can't really remember how I got it and solve that problem. But I do remember I opened my shutter for quite a long period. Tried a 2 frames and same noise appears. End up, I got an advice from my friend to try attach my lens hood on to see whether it will imporve a not. To my surprise, yes it did. So I guess it the surrounding lights that affect the pics I suppose. Also, maybe could be due to the lens that have light reflections on it.
Anyway, this is my 2 cents contribution. Hope it help. Still got lot more to learn from the pros as I'm still a noobs shooting for the fun and interest that's all.
Once again, no preview as I don't know how to post them up and also, I don't know how to do and photos edit.
:(

Hmm, my 410 doesn't exhibit the phenomena you're facing (just did a quick and dirty test).

I have send email already. Wait and see. Meanwhile just have to work outside the range.
There is a tool PzapGui (i only tried this) works pretty well as the hot pixel location in the sensor is rather fixed.
Just load the 6sec lenscap photo and use the pixel map to remove.

Lens hood did not work bec I use it in my earlier photo as the cheap filter was the cause of glare. I have since switch to Hoya multicoat and glare problem solved.

PS:Image stablizer is not the cause either

When you did the 4sec test and 8 sec test, was the write speed the same? As 510 write diff is very obvious.

Okay so this is my first post and although I have been shooting for years I still consider myself very much an amateur. I just bit the bullet and bought an Olympus E-510, should be delivered by Wednesday.I studied over several cameras in my price range but the 510 just seemed to have the most features and seems like it will be a worthy investment for many years to come. I can't wait to go shooting with it this weekend. So just saying "Hi Ya'll" and please let me know about your experiences with the 510. I hope I made a good choice!

...

Good luck with it. I hope they can fix it quickly for you because that's really ugly.

no it wont solve...the damn thing hapn since end of Nov .... gave up.

I can imaging how it feels. Fortunately all day shots are not affected; at least still have consolation price.

Just to illustrate how bad it is.

could you bring it to olympus service center... ask them is because of a faulty cam or is it a common problem found in the e510?....

Good luck with it. You should be happy as it seems to have a lot going for it. Take time to learn what's in the manual. While you're waiting, you could download the .pdf version and get a headstart.

Most of the threads related to the E-510 and other cameras of the four-thirds system are not in the Olympus forum but the four-thirds forum, so you might want to start there in the future. :) I started recently and ended up looking to start in the Olympus forum first, also.

Hi Rolltideguy77,

Congrats on your purchase of the e510. It is one of the best Oly has to offer to date. You'll love its feature set; I'm sure it will serve you well for a long time to come. The IS really works.

cheers,
Phil

Try turning off "Star Wars mode" :bsmilie:

Did you try 'pixel mapping' to see if the problem will go away? This can be accessed in the last menu.

(tao) Tried all combination, include pixel mapping menu.

(blurboiboi) Certainly. I was intending to send Svc Centre.

(Vsonic06) No. It came from the death star on the galaxy on the right (or left) :bsmilie:
