All About The Olympus E-510 Thread

I've heard good things about Silkypix as well, I'll probably give it a go and see how it stacks up against Studio.

I don't want to install Studio 2 now as it is only available as a 30-day trial version and what's more, it requires that I uninstall my Studio 1.5 before it could be installed.

ACR 4.1 is probably not fully optimised for the E-510 at the moment as it is not officially supported even though it works.

I'm actually waiting for SilkyPix 3 to release their update supporting E-510 (which should be any day now) as SilkyPix is my all-time favorite raw converter for Olympus ORF.

How much does SilkyPix cost?

These were shot in RAW and converted using ACR in CS3. Also, if you look closely, you will see that most of the shots were either side lit or back lit which tend to make the images prone to abnormal color casts.

However, I have to say that I find the E-510 handles difficult exposures much better than the previous Olympus DSLRs that I have owned and used (like the E-300 and E-330). There is much less tendency to blow highlights under such situations (and also under normal situations) than with these cameras. Colour-wise, these pics which I had posted are not much different from those that I had taken with my other Olympus DSLRs though.

thanks for sharing

btw, i really like #7 & #9

Uncle Tom, do you use the e510 default settings for the Contrast/Saturation/Sharpness or do customize them? In short, what are yr settings on yr cam? ;)

Really tempted......but not keen on the kit lens.

Hehe. Here you go.

Cost around S$1,389.30 in Japan for Body only.

I have not move these settings away from their default as I have always shot in RAW and these settings affect jpeg shooting only.

I don't care for the kit lens also but that's because I have better lenses which I can use instead. However, it would seem that the new 14-42mm is slightly better optically than the old 14-45mm kit lens. ;)

Actually I'm quite surprised that it looked so dirty in that close-up photo. It doesn't look like that in real life. Can't see those dirt particles at all.... the power of macro-photography ! :)

My God ! It costs more than buying the kit locally !
Might as well buy it locally and throw away the kit lens ! :o

That should be the RRP, would probably be cheaper at the shops.

According to my research Oly prices are cheapest in the US, then followed by the rest of Asia, Australia, Japan, with Europe being the most expensive (no thanks to the strong Euro..).

Yes, I notice Japan prices are not very cheap. :D

Yep, my bro did some scouting at Yodobashi for Oly prices, it wasn't very encouraging.

not always the case. FL50 is around SGD550 if u buy from Japan.

Can you get cheaper than US...?

Crap... that's one thing I forgot to get my bro to check out!! :bsmilie:

I think US is still slightly cheaper with their mail-in rebate program.

damn looks like not worth it getting from Japan. Might as well buy locally and use yhe kit lens as paper weight since I've the 14-54mm liao

But the 14-42mm is an improvement optically over the old 14-45mm, except for the plastic mount, and it is almost weightless.

Wat throw away... i'm sure sell at $50 sure got ppl want to grab. Those who using only kit lens with E-330, E-300, E-500 might want mah... ;)
