woah. hot from the oven. Thanks...

any one used the 14-54 on the e-510?... is it a little too big for it?...

I am using the 14-54mm with the E-500, the size is just right so that should be the case with the E-510 too. The aperture range makes a great difference for indoor shooting indeed and barrel distortion at wide angle is negligible compared with the kit lens.

anyone knows whether there's third party batts for the E-510... the originals is way out of my budgets...

Lots wor... are you in a hurry to get? Coz i thought of buying from Ebay a 1900mAh one... If buying 2 pcs at 1 shot cheaper... i dun need 2 pcs coz already got 2 pcs. having 3 pcs is sufficient for me... i don't need 4 pcs. ;p

This is not the first reviews stating image quality is even better with low or no noise filter and/or lowering sharpness. Can any e510 users tried these adjustments and can share their personal experiences?

i'm looking to buy an additional batt too, but how much is this one if we were to buy together?

kinda waiting for eastgear to have a sale. :D

As this is another discussion about the E-510, I have decided to merge the thread into the existing "All E-510" discussion...

You don't find it incredibly confusing now?

It is currently confusing because the forum software does not allow thread like merging. But after a little while, the order will come back. Sorry for making life a little more difficult now.

Attended workshop by Lei Antonio on 26/7/07
He recommends general settings for newbies as follows:
1. picture mode- vivid or natural
contrast -2
sharpness +1
saturation +1
2. graduation -normal
3. use raw
4. use iso100 where possible
5. noise filter -low or standard
6. noise reduction off
7.focus centre spot
8. S-AF
9. anti-shock on
10. AF illum on
11.color space -sRGB
12.X-sync 1/125
13,AEL/AFL memo on
14.AEL metering -spot
PS: if errors above then it is my misunderstanding.
I will e-mail him to clarify if necessary

why noise reduction off? I thought this is only for long exposure right?

Just got my E510 a few days ago.

Is there anyway to make the AEL button work normally during live view, ie as a metering lock button instead of AF?

I want access to my spot metering during live view.

The E330 live view A is better implemented as you can AF using half shutter press and spot metering using the AEL button. Why didn't olympus implement AF with a half shutter press on the E510? Just flip up the mirror and AF when there is a half shutter press and lock the AF. The the operation will be similar to when using a viewfinder.

Lei Antonio said leaving it on will affect shot to shot time even if exposure less than 1 sec.

wow that is something new. Too lazy to test it :) but since I never shoot long exposure might as well turn it off. I think I left it ON (default).

Sorry I did not try this out first and may not have understood your requirement.
It is possible to set in menu 'spanner1' the various S-AF modes (mode 2 for you?) to lock metering and press AEL/AFL once (if AEL/AFL memo is ON) to memorise metering then use shutter for S-AF (page 77)

not only confusing but make searching specific topics difficult, need to look thru a whole heap of posts.

also didn't understand why most specific Oly things r in 4/3 sys sub forum. its like just having "Medium Format" & "35mm Format" so all 35mm brands (canon, nikon, pentax, ricoh, oly, minolta, chinnon, etc) go under one roof.

sorry for the ranting...

nope. In live view, the E510 uses the AEL for AF not matter what settings you set I think.

Actually coming from a E330 user, I find the live view from the E510 quite bad.

It is so hard to focus and recompose and even with a willing subject like my wife, it is a test of patience as the shutter trips twice, sometimes my wife starts moving after the first shutter sound thinking that the shot has been taken..... I basically has to focus using the AEL button, HOLD it, and recompose and press the shutter.

E330 live view is HEAPS better. It is not just the ariticulated screen, rather than the lack of mode A which I miss the most.

The good thing about the E510 is the IS which is working amazingly well. The live historgram is nice too.

Hi there guys. BLM-1 retails about $125 @ Olympus. MS Color sells it about $90 (bought 1 for my e510). The non-OEM BLM-1 retails for about $45 at Sim Lim Square. :)

This is from the manual:

"Use Only Dedicated Rechargeable Battery and Battery Charger
We strongly recommend that you use only the genuine Olympus dedicated rechargeable battery and battery
charger with this camera.
Using a non-genuine rechargeable battery and/or battery charger may result in fire or personal injury due to
leakage, heating, ignition or damage to the battery. Olympus does not assume any liability for accidents or
damage that may result from the use of a battery and/or battery charger that are not genuine Olympus
accessories."
