Alienbees

Here in usually-sunny but now rainy singapore - the voltage is 230V, so should I

1.) Get my ABs and Vagabond in 220V, most likely from Aussieland and incurring a higher charge.
2.) Get my ABs and Vagabond in 110V and use some kind of adapter to step up to 220V? I can order from US site (have friends who can do it for me.)

Whoa getting alien bees .

Anyway id go for option 2 because i have friends over there too. More worth it if they can bring back for u.

bro, if you are getting from US, can i tag on with your purchase? haha.. dun worry, all small llight stuff..
We still can get the 240v mini and einstein from US.

anymore samples of shots done with the Alienbees?

Not sure if this photo is good enough. This was shot last week with the AB einstein on a 7" reflector. No umbrella and softbox was used. I have not used it to shoot any beauty or closed up pic yet.

Is there any potential issues using a 110v Vagabond > step up convertor > SG’s 230V mains?

sorry can't help there, I no haz ab.

can ask the others that use it.. ;p

When using those, need to see whether that transformer can tahan the max burst of electricity from the lights. Other than tat, i cant think of much issues

Actually vagabond mini comes in two voltages when u order. Dun choose the wrong one can liao

No, we still cannot buy from the US website unless you got a US credit card and address.

They have another website in Australia to take care of orders in Asia. https://paulcbuff.com.au/cms/

However, it is more expensive compared to the prices in US but i guess we have no choice.

I remember i bought 1 Vagabond mini with extra battery, 1 x Einstein light, 1 x 7" reflector cos me about S$1500 including shipping ($140AUD). If buy from US, can get about S$1100 without shipping.

Agree. But shipping cost from US is much more expensive as compare to shipping from Au to SG. It may ended up no much diff. But think if place the order directly from Au, the goods should reach you earlier then US.

Thanks.

the problem is, i do not know which one is the correct one!!

Anyway, expecting my next order 2 VB mini to reach SG by next week. I took a stand and closed both my eyes and tikam.... placed the order for both VB using 230V. Have yet to see the prob, if any, later when received them in hand....

Is anyone here using Alien bees stuff? I'm looking at a very simple monobloc system and was wondering what advantages it has over profoto, elinchrom, etc.

I got mine not long ago, please let me know if you wanna hands on those Eistein, i can let you feel and test test before you can decide wanna buy.... Personally, i love them!!

Thought you have to get a matching voltage of Vagabonds to your existing Alienbees?

Alienbees can operate on dual voltage. Its the vagabond mini that requires a specific voltage.

It is right to match the VB to AB, if we have one as existing lighting system. But i do not have any of the AB in hand. Currently, Einstein is very flexible to accommodate Voltage ranging from 95V to 265V. It doesn't matter which version of VB Mini we are getting.... should work... will update you if it is not, once i gotten mine VB mini.... :)

Hi Bro, let me know if you wanna try other accessories from PCB. I should see mine by this week end.

Actually you have it backwards....:confused:The alienbeesflash units come in either 110v or 220v versions but not dual voltage.....The new mini vagabond is multvoltage input but single voltage output...You can get it in either 110 or 220 output....Now the einstein is a multivoltage flash.....;)

Cheers

Oops. Was meaning the einsteins.

But one thing im scared of is no after sales support here, if suay suay spoil how ah?

If I were you guys in Singapore, I would buy local stuff like Jinbee monolights and then maybe get the mini vagabond or a local version...the vagabond can power pretty much any small to medium power monolight....

Cheers

is very hard to kill a strobe
unless u drop it from height, or wet it?
just need to get extra flash tube

and also i read is nto advisable to use VB mini with other brands of light
read somewhere that the VB have compatible issue with elinchrome BRxi

and yes i am saving up for them!

just to check any one bought AB lights + speed ring BUT used china/korean or other brand of modifers ?

I am saving up to get a pair of Jinbei Discovery 600 units....Not sure if its better to buy in Hong Kong, Singapore, KL, or BKK....I like the AB's but I have to travel with a transformer as Guam is 110v and everywhere else I go is 220v...(mostly Bangkok and Philippines).

Any way I am soon to order the VB mini to test with my various monolights and mabe even my Comet mini pack and heads....Hopefully next month I will let you guys know what it will work with....;)

Cheers

Haven't tried the VB yet, as i have yet to receive them.

While waiting for the PCB SB to arrive, i've used my Einstein (without PCB speedring), with mod version mounting to mount the Jinbei softboxes. Not an issue at all. Just to share that the AB mounting is different from Bowen / Elinchrome ...etc. None of the mounting can be used without mod.
