Then I better bring a big enough luggage ;p No telling if HK will be any cheaper though.

go there for enjoyment and shoot more pictures.

you cant be sure in this market. Just let us know when you see the actual item.

Review of the lens by Bjorn Rorslett is out on his website. There are quite a number of minor problems with the lens but here are his comments on the improvements:

"the aperture opening is nicely rounded and the out-of-focus rendition (bokeh) is softer and less harsh than seen with the older 50/1.4 AFD model".

"Although nano-coating is missing, the new lens handles awkward backlighting and point light sources better than the model it replaces. Ghosting is usually minimal, but when shooting straight into the sun, you tend to be rewarded by a big bur rather weak blue ghost spot. Flare is well controlled, though, and I did not encounter situations in which flare was an issue for my shooting with the AFS 50/1.4G"

Sure sounds great

No worries about the "ugly" lens hood, I shoot with my 50 AF 1.4 on my F100 without the hood anyways.

Marcus Bell a well-known wedding photographer was asked by Nikon to try out the new D3x using of course the new AFS 50mm f1.4G lens.

Check out the shots at this LINK

So who wants to get one? Er...I mean the lens... :bsmilie:

But of course if you can afford the S$12,000+ for the D3X why not get that too ?

Marcus Bell tried out the D3x + 50/1.4G? IIRC, He is a Canon shooter and his opinion should be pretty interesting.

I wanna get one but doubt it will be available locally on the 5th, after which, I will be checking out the price in HK.

yes indeed! maybe after using the nes D3x and the new AFS 50mm he may just decide to switch over ;)

here's a ninteresting review done by pro wildlife shooter Bjørn Rørslett on the new 50mm f1.4G

his conclusion is as follows:

"The new model is an evolution of the older lens, so you don't need to rush out to purchase it unless you can only work with AFS. Anyone looking for an excellently performing normal lens should consider the "G" carefully."

he sees the new lens not as a revolution but a simple evolution...

so you guys still want to get it at S$600+?

I will still get it, provided it is not S$700+.

more shots taken by the new AFS 50mm f1.4G at f1.4, f2.8 and f5.6

the f1.4 shot is really cool!

here's the LINK

the stripe in the background totally disappeared. Looks like the 50mm is a must have now.

apparently the price of this new lens has dropped at Amazon to $439 as reported HERE

at current exchange rates as given at xe.com this would be...

439.00 USD = 658.921 SGD

As long as it does not go beyond 700 I am happy.

then be very very sorry. LOL

any confirmation on the arrival date and price yet ?
