have to see how good the "new optical formula" is.

Hmm smaller front element but bigger filter size....strange.

Any local news on this lens?

Any local news on this lens?

Nope, none at all. There are no news, updates and rumors recently, except for an estimated release at end Nov to mid Dec...

i'm hoping to get one at least before 30th nov.. called some shops yesterday and not a single one knows when this lens will be on the shelves.. anyone knows if there are shops accepting reservations? appreciate any info.

You will probably have higher chances seeing it in Dec. No one knows when the lens will be in the shops.

even whilst i was in japan, after checking with yodobashi and BIC in tokyo, they can only advise a december 08 release without any specific dates...

so damn elusive!:dunno:

They can say 31st Dec and launch it 30th Jan. What can we do? It is not a life or death matter so just sit back and patiently wait for it.

Well, some people may want the lens more than you do, and are eager to test it out and buy it.

Something very interesting about the new AFS 50mm f1.4G lens in a tutorial video sponsored by Intel and Nikon...

I watched it twice to make sure I heard it right...

the new lens has Nano Coating?!?

the video was hosted by Jasin Boland who "is one of the world’s leading photographers, having shot blockbuster Hollywood motion pictures like The Bourne series, the Mission Impossible films and The Matrix Trilogy"

he mentioned about his new lens the 50mm f1.4G lens as having nano coating somewhere just before the mid point of the video when he talks about his fast lens kit (inside his yellow hard case)

by the way the videos are part of the "Build For Speed" photo contest by Intel and Nikon... to enter you have to buy either a new "desktop computer with an Intel® Core™ i7 processor" or any Nikon DSLR... BUT all purchases only from authorised dealers DownUnder...

well here's the video tutorial LINK ... got it from NR link here

so do you think the production 50mm f1.4G will have nano coating or did Jasin made a Freudian slip? :bsmilie:

The lens will be on sale in Japan on the 5th of December. Wonder will it be available here on the same date?

Think he made a blunder...

If it is true that there is nano coating, then I would say 700~800 would be a justifiable price albeit slightly on the high side. I would prefer if Nikon release the lens at more consumer friendly level, about 600 would be reasonable.

Not everyone can afford to buy high end lenses like the Summilux. And I do not think that Nikon would price a widely used model so high up there and kill themselves.

LOL! Just deleted my post. Everything points to it having a very good picture quality....lets hope it does not disappoint. No point for N to release something similar performance to its predecessor....but then it has happened before.

understand from j316 that it is available 8 dec.

you better prepare to bring a few extra sets back for us.

Then I better bring a big enough luggage ;p No telling if HK will be any cheaper though.
