How far is the distance between you and the kids ?

The bokeh looks not much different with 35mm f/2.

At this kind of distance of background from subject, and at 35mm, the bokeh difference cannot be seen so easily. Bokeh refers to the quality of the background blur, which in this case, hard to qualify the 'quality'.

But the thing about 35 1.4 is, it is able to create OOF at such shooting situations when other lens might not have achieved so well, e.g. 18-55, etc

Tested the lens and realised that this lens creates a natural soft vignetting. adds the touch to the photos i took nicely. :)

Really sharp eyes. Distance was 1.5m and aperture was f/2.

I've had this lens for 3 weeks now. I am one of 2 lucky people in my city to receive one from the local pro shop. First, I also have the 35 f/1.8 DX and I agree that it is a good lens but on FX, the 1.4 G is perfect. It's sharp and the ability to isolate subjects at this wide of angle is very unique...a 3D feel. I chose this lens over the 24mm simply because 35mm on FX is very versatile. This lens has not left my camera since it was received. If you can find one, buy it. For reference I also own the trinity of zooms and the 85mmf/1.4.

Is your 85mm a f1.4G too? I own both and slightly tend to prefer the 85mm over 35mm now :bsmilie:
Simply because the bokeh, subject isolation and sharpness of the 85mm are better and I can stand further from the subject to take their natural expression without their notice.
But the 35mm has its own use too for taking moments in a tight space where the 85mm can't.
The 24mm will distort the subjects a lot when shooting close-up. Hence I never choose it.
