AF-S 35mm f/1.4G Nano

nice pics kentwong!
the bokeh, color and microcontrast does seem pretty impressive. i presume all shot wide open @ 1.4?

straight off camera? or edited?

Straight out of camera. I seldom edit or try to minimise the editing because I want to preserve the original image coming out from this wonderful lens :)

Yeah, all are shot at wide open 1.4 to see what this lens can do at 1.4.

So fast

I bought this 35mm for general daily shooting. When I see something interesting with my eyes, I can take out the camera to shoot without moving a few steps front or back. It's very good for capturing candids and moments given its working distance.
For portraits, 85mm and above would be better while for landscape, 24mm or below are more suitable to get the wide perspective. So we can't expect this 35mm to do as perfect as 85mm and above for portraits, and as perfect as 24mm or below for landscape. There is no one best lens to do everything. Also prime lenses are not as convenient as zoom lens too but it gives you more control of DOF with its smallest aperture f1.4 and much better low light performance. Hence, I think it's better we check if 35mm prime is suitable for our own style before deciding to buy this expensive lens.
The above I mentioned is meant for full frame. It maybe different for DX focal lengths.

Nice! I am toying with the idea of getting a 35mm DX first. It seems impossible to find the 35mm f1.4G in shops nowadays!

Maybe you can try to search and call the Nikon dealers in Johor Bahru at www.nikon.com.my. They may have stocks and cheaper. But be careful when bringing the large amount of money to Johor(ask someone going together with you better). Otherwise, I saw some people selling in the b&s section too.

This is because previously Nikon was under old regime, who thought that 35mm f/2 was sufficient :dunno:

The new era with new President has just started since April 2010, Makoto Kimura, Nikon will not be the same again
Greeting from Nikon new President
"Guided by our philosophy, Trustworthiness and Creativity, I commit myself to fostering a spirit that will make the Nikon Group an even more dynamic and prosperous company."

11 years is not long. Canon had the TS-E 24mm for almost 20 years before Nikon made her PC-E 24mm.

Nikon focus on zoom lenses rather than prime lenses previously. That's why we have 14-24, 24-70 and 70-200 which are much more superior than any Canon zoom lenses. Now Nikon focus on prime lenses and with the releasing of 50mm f1.2G this year or next year, Nikon will be back to the leading role again.

does it matter? I rather have lower prices than comparing who has the larger dick.

Lower price? Inflation is everywhere. Human population is growing and getting more greedy but the resources are getting lesser. I'm more concerned about my earning power rather than wishing Nikon to give discounts in order to maintain photography as hobby.

IT matters, coz Leica and MF would have the largest dicks. :bsmilie:
