AF-S 35mm f/1.4G Nano

Some have gotten the 35/1.4 as well in the FM 24/1.4 wide open thread..... Some baby/kid photos earlier in thread as well (page 18/19 onwards). Some 100% crops for the 24G in here too.

nice.. guys come on, share more photos..this is getting poisonous

The 35mm f1.4G uses SWM motor to focus rather than the camera body motor. I think D3 won't help much on this. It takes a moment to lock-on with the precision demanded for accurate focus at wide open f/1.4 to give sharp and contrasty image.

 so creamyy
how much u bought ?

focus not fast need to get D3 liao ahhaah

oooo... pregnant? congrats!

no wonder you bought the 35... nice for baby photos.

24f1.4 is a len for baby shot I feel:thumbsup:
baby tend to look "fatter", so wide len will make baby chin look sharper.....not sure I use the correct words or not
after frd get i will use 24g and 35g to shoot my baby see how they look

Maybe our interpretation of sharpness is on different level hehe.

Well, I am kind of a fussy person when it comes to this :bsmilie:

I'm a Leica user, and sharp = Leica's ASPH M lenses. The only Nikon lenses that come close is the 200mm f/2 VR II and a bunch of the new telephotos. That is my definition of sharp. What's yours? :).

My copy seems the same as well.. AF undoubtely slower but accurate! [/IMG]

I will try to use the lens for the weekend, but unfortunately, 35mm is not one FL I use often. I'm pleasantly surprised by the edge-to-edge sharpness wide open.

Hi Hacker,

Leica lenses are in different league already. Too expensive and guilty to own one

curious abt 35 1.4 asph M with nikon comparison.. just for the fun of it!

You have pretty high standard indeed ;)

A comparison between :
AF-S 35mm f/1.4G Nano vs AF-S 35mm f/1.8G DX (in FX mode)
would be very interesting to see

Of course the f/1.8G DX would produce vignette, but this lens is quite popular with its sharpness and the result on FX is quite reasonable.

I think the sharpness comparison is not important. Every lens is sharp and depend on how you bring the sharpness out of the lens. The kit lens 18-105 is sharp too. You can view the MTF charts of all Nikon lenses here for their shaprness.
How about the contrasty level, colour rendition, bokeh, body built, distortion and CA level comparison? Seems like nobody mentioned about these previously. I believe all these make up the so-called a better lens. And it comes with a hefty price....

Perhaps should also talk about the photos we take with these lenses.....

Actually it's a misconception that SWM motors are not influenced by the strength of the camera body.

A simple solution to increase AF speed on all SWM motors with your D700 is to use either 8 AA batteries or a EN-EL4. The increase voltage will certainly drive your lens faster. Though accuracy will change ultimately.

Really? How about adding a battery grip with 2 EN-EL4? Will it be super fast? If so, I don't mind to buy a 2nd hand MB-D10 and try.

You mean 2 EN-EL3s (the standard D700/D300/D70/D80/D90 battery)?

No, there will not be any increase in performance as there is no increase in voltage.

The other added bonus is that using EN-EL4 (D3 battery) or 8 AAs through the MB-D10 gives you 8 FPS. Combine that with machineguning with AF-C, will no doubt increase the number of keepers!:sweat:

i was abt to comment on these endless "my lens is sharper than yours" wanking ... but i figured, wat's the point....

can we revert back to sharing of photos taken by this lens, like wat numnumball has done? thank you.

In addition to some photos I previously shared in this thread, here are a few I took yesterday for testing at night:
