missyflo said:i bought the E-PL2 in white, with 14-42mm kit lens! quite happy with the pictures taken!
by the way, may i ask, if it is better to get 40-15mm lens or the wide-angle pancake lens? for travel photography purposes?
and is the 14-42mm sufficient for local shooting?
Depends on what subjects u like to take. Some of my thoughts; 14-42 is pretty much a 3 x zoom. If u had been using compact cam with a 3x zoom all along, and served u well, u r set to travel with just that. The new kit lens is actually very small already imho.
Each lens u mention has a different purpose:
17mm is not as wide as kit but it's brighter and good for street shots and light walk around as well as handheld night shots.
40-150 is telephoto and good for portraits (subject isolation) with it's long focal length. It's quite useless for low light photography.
14-150 is an all rounder for travelers who doesn't want to change lens often. But again not a low light performer. Best to have a tripod.
Personally I like the pany 20/1.7 for it's low light perf, sharpness with some shallow depth of field. I travel with this lens most of the time on my epl1, plus 9-18 for wide landscapes, manual lens for portraits.
So which type of photographer are u?
