Advice on A55 purchase

I'm a newbie shopping around for my first DSLR, and I'm getting dizzy over the array of choices there are out there!

I've seen many outdoor shots taken with the A55 in the picture thread and am astounded by the image quality. However, as I'll most likely be taking a lot of pictures indoors, I'm wondering how the A55 performs in indoor low-light conditions? Most likely I'll be using the camera to take pictures of weddings, family gatherings and corporate functions. Can anyone post some sample indoor type shots, esp those taken in low light?

Thanks!

The A55 high ISO is very good and clean. The articulating LCD with fast autofocus in Live view, and fast focusing in video, will be very handy for the "over-everyone's-heads" shots at gatherings and functions.

Buy with confidence, it's camera of the year for a reason. ;)

It will be cheaper than here, but stocks may be hard to find. It's selling out fast.

This rumour already out few months ago...nothing new.

It's the new A77 which will be launched in June 2011 period and probably will only reach Singapore by 3rd quarter 2011, so you wanna wait till then?

Also, it will be a mid-range model that probably will cost the same as D7000 and will have bigger, heavier metal body. It's a good camera definitely as many A700 owners have been waiting for donkey years but it's an entirely different animal to A33/55.

Somemore, the name and specs are not even officially announced yet, I dun think HN or SonyStyle staff can be so advanced or having first hand news that even Sony employees doesn't know.

Yeah, my bad.. sorry. ... didnt realized the rumours were out quite some time ago ....
i also called up sony style and asked abt the a77, apparently the salesmen got the news from sony rumours and not thru official channels ....

So i have decided to go ahead to get the a55 coz i agree with u that the new a77 seems like a much bigger/heavier and much more expensive model which i do not want ... i like the lightweight a55. from the prototype at photokina, it seems like that a77 does not have a tiltable lcd which i needed... so i think i will go get the a55...

i'm also waiting to see how the new A7X/7XX will look like. but usually mock-ups look nothing like the retail sets... like how the NEX looked when it was launched compared to when it was unveiled at CES in january this year.

OMG, just around sonystyle outlet, say they are not gonna replendish anymore stocks of a55 due to new model replacement...arrrggghhhh!

gimme dilemma cos i wanna buy from sonystyle to get the 2yr warranty....
then i pop by harvey norman....they got stock....sian

Rumor: There may indeed be a A55 replacement in the pipeline

LOL? SR3... isn't it 50% true?

HAH. i'd like to see the look on my brother's face if there is a replacement. he's gonna buy the A55 next month after pay day

It is but a rumor. I am curious however, if the rumor is true, will it be significantly different from an already impressive package (for something of its price).

Its going to be a norm for entry level models to be replaced on annual basis to keep up with the new features and sensor technology.

Would be interesting to see what they are going to prioritize.

Address some of its current shortcomings? Or do what some manufacturer do, include some tweaks, throw in some extra tricks, slap on a few extra MPs and asks for a few extra dollars for the effort.

I do not deny that A55 does have some issues, which I suspect are not deal breakers for some (including me). But would still be good to have them ironed out.

newie here, i on my way purchase one before i see this post. Does this mean that i might just wait for a while for the new series to be out?
1 Q,do i need any filter with this A55?
thanks for any reply.:)

Go ahead and get an A55. :)

As for the filters, they're bought for a lens, not a camera. Up to you if you want to get one, but most would recommend a UV filter to protect the front element of the lens. Just make sure you don't get ripped off - a 20-30 SGD Hoya is more than enough.

thanks. but at the moment it seems everywhere there is no stock.
Beside lens, filter, tripod, dry cabinet.any other things i have to purchase?

Rocket blower. Microfibre cloth. Maybe a flash if you need it.
