I was going through your photos thinking 'Wow, i wonder what camera this guy uses'. Imagine my shock when i found out it's a E-PL1! What's more, i have the same camera. I'm always going on and on about how slow the Auto Focus is and when i look back at my photos taken with the Oly it seemed to have less contrast and less dynamic range than my larger sensor camera. Also I believed the kit lens was not up to the task of taking really 'good' photos and what i really needed was a panny 20mm, etc. There was always something lacking in my shots.

After going through your photos, I now realise that the 'something lacking' was ME!
You have made me appreciate my camera again and taught me a very valuable lesson. I'm now ashamed to admit i belonged to the 'pixel peeper' category and lost sight of the big picture and what matters most.

The photograph.

Thank you my friend. You are an Inspiration.

as a fellow oly user, i'm really impressed with your pics.

Was piddling away here http://www.clubsnap.com/forums/showthread.php?t=816016&page=3 when a fellow CSer referenced your postings here.

I can only say awesome & inspiring. Makes me want to go get a Oly like my friend. But it will make no difference. Mere equipment cannot substitute for creative vision, artistic imagination, eye for composition & colors, technical mastery, passion, appreciation etc that's evident in these pictures. Thank you. Enjoyed them. Keep sharing. Cheers!

Hi Andrew, having gone thru all the postings here, hope you don't mind my honest remarks here. Much as the Oly PEN EPL1 is a good cam, I cant help but feel disappointed with the smaller reduced size that somehow makes these pictures loose their visual impact & the wow! factor. Also, IMHO the art filters appear to make what are but excellent pictures seems gimmicky & toy-like in some instances. I cant help but felt myself just zooming past these latter pictures, loosing attention & interest. Really hope I can get to see more from the Oly dslr & to learn & enjoy your works... Cheers!

Hi adrewine,

Have been truly inspired by this travel series of yours. Have subscribed and I look forward to more of your perspectives from around the world :)

Cheers!

You're most welcome, always!

Yes, I'm glad you understood very well what I was mumbling about..........

Photography is not just about the science and technicals....as you move along it will be more about the art more than any thing else............

I've got a friend who says that my pictures have no 'bokeh' but little he did realized that he's a one aperture lens (f/1.4) shooter that has all his picture's background 'blur' and no story line.......hehe....the rest of the aperture setting are insignificant to him.....so he has got his eyes train to see only 'blurness'.

Another FF shooter with an expensive L lens and showed me his model shots........all he talked about was how creamy his 'bokeh' were.........I look at him and his models and really pity those girls......

Another story I shared some time back was a guy I met and showed him some of my pictures and he was very impressed with my portfolio......until I told him that all the photos were taken with Oly cameras that he went 'freaked out' and started scrutinizing my every other shot for 'noise'...............(as you can see he's a 'noise' expert).......hehe.

Anyway keep shooting and learn to see light and see thru' the lens.............every lens out there each has its own characteristic and capability......shoot to their potential and you'll be amazed.

I've just finish going thru all your photos and comments in this thread.
You work and words are really encouraging and it makes me appreciate my equipment more.

"It's the person behind the camera and not only the camera alone." = this quote describes u very well. LOL

Using in-camera's Creative 'Pop Art' Art Filter

i absolutely love this photo! its so representative of not only your Eye for the picture (the art part) but also your technical mastery (the science part).

apart from the pop art filter were there any other "special" adjustments you made?

OK! OK! This shot is for you guys out there (electron; GSiGuy; innerzen; wywysimba; freebird75; analox; s1221ljc; supmylo; Scoop)...........

Thank you very much for your kind words, positive comments and constructive feedback..........I guessed ultimately it's the picture that speaks for itself........not the camera brand or the sensor sizes........but the art of seeing from the perspective of the shooter.

Hehe........Many people commented about the 4/3 and m4/3 sensor size (considered to be inferior here) and its awkward format ratio.......hmmm just wondering how are these people (using APS-C or FF 3:2 sensor) ever going to one day shoot a medium format camera where most of the sensors size are of 5:6; 6:6; 6:7 formats which is pretty close to 4/3 format ratio........anyway most portraiture shots are produced in A4 size which is also in 4/3 dimension.

A one dimensional photographer will only see a one
size 3:2 canvass format and try to fit all his paints into it where as an 'artist' sees the light and compose with the best aspect ratio format to capture the shoot.......likewise with those using creative PP eg. HDR, Orton, Pin-hole, Sepia, using filters............to name a few........... to create 'ART'.......all of a sudden your simple photo become a ART piece.........try to see and think out of the box and your photography will transform and you will definitely experience a paradigm shift in your outlook and insight.

Photography is about 'Reduction' and not trying to capture everything or every details into a shot............. As you can see many camera now offer several aspect ratio format..............it is there for a reason.......use them wisely........it can and will improve your composition greatly.......:) ( It was a tip shared to me by a Leica guru)

Just my 1 cent worth of sharing.........no offense to the rest of 3:2 users.
I think I've said to much oledi liao..........hehe.
