This is one of the thread that I always surf without fail , I enjoy and admire the photos
especially those taken with the kit lens 14-42mm and 40-159mm . Knowing that those lens are very
capable lens and if I cannot produce good photos with my 520 and kit lens it is my problem and not
those lens' fault (a bad carpenter blames his tools). Thank you for sharing those nice photos.

lovely lovely colors in No. 211! love the blue sky!

Hi jungle_sg...........I don't use any special filter on my lenses except the cheapo UV filter for extra protection..........hehe.......;)

With Olympus you don't really need any special filter as the jpeg colors are very very good OOC ........almost always have the polarizing effect on your camera.

Many nice pictures, thanks for sharing!

Thanks engta!

Here's a shot using the in-camera's creative art filter for you guys, Enjoy!

Welcome to the World of Oly Colors!

Thanks vainqueur............another demo-ing what this little cam can do using ISO setting to add 'grain texture' to the shot without trying very hard with PP.

Prost! From Germany!

Those are really really nice professionally slick photos! May i know, for how many of the shots you used a tripod? No need to trouble you with each specific picture, just roughly how many...

Thanks GSiGuy for dropping by............Almost all the shots posted here (98%) are taken hand held........the Oly's onboard IS really helps...........Shooting low lights with an entry cam and kit lens, a good steady hands and proper bracing techniques are needed..........difficult but it can be done successfully.

If one prefers ultra sharp and no noise pic then better use tripod........otherwise crank up the ISO.......it it there for a reason.

For me I always like the fast easy lazy way of handheld shooting style of the perfect imperfect shots.........hehe................challenging lighting conditions suits me well as I always shoot on the go and don't really bother about the sharpness and noise level...............those are for pixel-peepers.

Anyway here's a handheld shot taken before twilight for you, Enjoy!

oh man, you are damn good at using the kit lens, I got only the 14-42mm lens, so, I was especially attracted to your EPL1 14-42mm photos. What mode you usually use? Manual or AP or SP? Manual focus or Auto focus?

Thanks vainqueur for the compliment..............I use mainly the AP mode and Auto focus (99.9% of the time unless shooting under certain lighting conditions/situations).

Just to share.....I've seen many shooters (newbies and experienced) using M mode to shoot :dunno:.......half the time their photos are either over or under exposed and they always shoot in the safety of RAW ........ they then edit the photos in computer to get back the correct colors and exposure back...............so they never learn/train their to eyes to 'see' light and colors.

Try shooting in jpeg and it will force you to get your exposure, WB, colors right as the margin of error is smaller........this is one of the way to learn what type/kind of lighting work best.

Just my 2 cents worth......it may not pleased everyone here....I know......

BTW...all my photos are taken in jpeg files.

You're most welcome, always!

Yes, I'm glad you understood very well what I was mumbling about..........

Photography is not just about the science and technicals....as you move along it will be more about the art more than any thing else............

I've got a friend who says that my pictures have no 'bokeh' but little he did realized that he's a one aperture lens (f/1.4) shooter that has all his picture's background 'blur' and no story line.......hehe....the rest of the aperture setting are insignificant to him.....so he has got his eyes train to see only 'blurness'.

Another FF shooter with an expensive L lens and showed me his model shots........all he talked about was how creamy his 'bokeh' were.........I look at him and his models and really pity those girls......

Another story I shared some time back was a guy I met and showed him some of my pictures and he was very impressed with my portfolio......until I told him that all the photos were taken with Oly cameras that he went 'freaked out' and started scrutinizing my every other shot for 'noise'...............(as you can see he's a 'noise' expert).......hehe.

Anyway keep shooting and learn to see light and see thru' the lens.............every lens out there each has its own characteristic and capability......shoot to their potential and you'll be amazed.

Here's a shot for you guys....taken just last month during the Autumn season in Central Park, Cheers!
