Adapter for filters on cp5700

hey i was just reading bernie's site more carefully, i can use filter adaptors that "snap on" the lens like the lens cap rite, and then of course the filters screw onto that adaptor? will i still need a UR-E8 then?

fella, i saw ur adaptor where it attaches to the UR-E8 but it's those that u screw the filter to the end and doesn't move with the lens is it? hope u know wat i'm trying to say cos i don't! ahhaha

is there any great difference between these two set ups?

arrr okokok... ignore my previous post.. kaoz.. so many pple answered my questions in the above posts liow... pardon my blurness.

okok fella u still "available" to help me order bernies ur-e8 to 72mm adaptor? i will pay u first b4 ordering. ;)

btw how big is it? hope it still fits in my camera bag...

and hor.. how much are 72mm filters? the first one i wanna get is probably a polarizer. any estimates?

wah die... gotta buy flash gotta buy filter gotta buy this buy that b4 my trip to australia. think i'll have no money to spend on my holiday liow!!

The UR-E8 is the adaptor for the Nikon's WC-E80 and TC-E15. It's nearly as long as the lens fully extended at 8x zoom. After adding the UR-E8 to 72mm it will be longer.

The first thing you should consider is a UV filter to protect the lens. Polarisers is a must I feel.

The rest as time goes you decide.

Oh yah, get the SB-80DX too :D

hi, joho

the UVs dependant on the brand of the filter... think the Hoya ones are more ex... I bought an el cheapo one for $15.
I find myself using the Circular Polariser more than the UV..
the Circular polariser seems to stay on permerantly.
Personally i think the colors have more "depth" when using the CP. thats y i keep it on most of the time

when u attach the bernie adapter to the UR-E8, the length will be the same as the zoom lens fully extended.
(the lens just touches filter when fully extented)

I am using a lowepro lumina belt pack. and i am able to fit my camera and my filters..
there is still place for a flash...

hope this helps

espn:

so i assume u leave the bernie's adaptor (and of course the URE8) ALL the time? doesn't it make the camera "bigger" (for storage etc?

yeah i've heard alot of pple stick on a UV filter for "protection" but i'm sure there's other uses for it like (intuitively!) it blocks out UV light? and why is that preferable?

sb80dx sounds good to my ears, not not wallet leh!! i'm thinking of going el cheapo and get sb22s? or sb50 second hand? aren't they good enuff for me (super photog newbie) now? and plus the 5700 can't utilise the TTL (or watever it's called) functions of the flash?

hobbes:

yeah i know i will defn get a polariser.. er.. circular linear etc i not very sure, but i guess if i do a search i'm sure this topic has been debated to death, if u have time briefly tell me the diff can? ahhaha all i know is it makes skies bluer and i can take glass/water and get rid of reflections. that's a noob's description for ya!

so u also leave the ure8 and bernies adaptor on when u store the cam? dun have a problem with the extra "size" of the cam?

at the moment i'm just using a smallish lowepro dres 40aw. i may have to upgrade then. urs is bigger than mine i think. THE BAG i'm talking about. :D :D

jOhO:

I think you got mixed up :D me not using the UR-E8 at all, I'm using the 52mm snap on adaptor, The lens barrel is extended by about 2 filter thickness lengths ~= negligible.

The UV filter will block off the UV rays so your pictures don't turn out too hazy but most of all it protects your lens also.

5700 has a TTL mode but of course it cannot utilise the DX flashes fully. Consider a SB-28DX lor.

always had the impression that you used the URE8 and 72mm adapter...
:D

ic ic.. sorree i assumed cos u were speaking about it.

hmm so now i'm still wondering if i should go "snap on" like urself with 52mm filters or follow fella and hobbes and do UR-E8 + 72mm adaptor. in a way i was more inclined to do it ur way since i dun think i'll need UR-E8 for accessory lenses (by the time i save up for them, i'd prob be going second hand dSLR?? hahaha dream on... dream awayyyyyyyy)

so u leave on ur adaptor and UV filter all the time even while in storage? guess it doesn't add that much length to the cam. have to get a 52mm lens cap too i presume.

are u using the sb28dx? that's still more ex then the sb80dx rite? i'm already swooning at the price of sb50dx and u ask me get sb28dx... ahha champion.. ;p

I've actually ordered a 46mm snap on to try out. I've bought an adapter for the 5700 which gives a 52mm thread (THANKS TO HOBBES!), and I am planning to leave the 46mm snap on with a good coated uv on the lens.
A bit difficult to describe really, too bad I don't have an extra digicam or I can just snap some pics without having to describe much.
Anyway, joho, if you are interested, I'll be at Orchard tomorrow evening with my equipment. Willing to show you if you are interested.
Will be getting my TC tomorrow too.

ok PMed you. ;)

One good thing about using UR-E8 and Bernies adapter is that even if the 5700 is accidentally turned ON inside your bag, the lens while extending will not hit anything since it is well protected by the adapters. Pretty bullet-proof solution, IMO.

This is one main reason I go for this option instead of the snap-on adapters. And yes, the other is regarding the 'extra' weight on the lens when zooming.

Oh, how I missed the 5700.

The link below helped me before, I just thought it might be of help to you 5700-users also.

Hobbes: The day I use the UR-E8 will be when I have my WC-E80 and TC-E15 :D

jOhO: Nothing to be sorry about :D heehee... I also find it funny how come I using the UR-E8 yet I don't know. :bsmilie:

The length protruding out from using the snap on is more negligible then the UR-E8, while it's good to have the UR-E8, it extends out too long for me. I had to change bags when I got the MB-E5700 so I ain't going to change yet just for the UR-E8.

And yes, you need a 52mm cap also.

The SB-28DX costs about $100-$120 less then the SB-80DX. :D Last price I heard is $400? The SB-80DX is $520.

Marx: Actually the chances of that happening is pretty low. There are risks when we all add stuffs to the cameras, just have to learn to be careful. I also for once left the power on and it was set to view mode so the lens didn't protrude but the camera was on all the while. Lucky... got auto power off.

Hiaks... have to be more then a photographer, have to learn to take care of the stuffs too :)

Damn! This is a fantastic tip! Thanks!!

espn, I just bought the s&f reporter 100 aw and it's just right for all my equipment.
Basically I can simply leave the ur-e8 with bernie's 72mm as well as the batt vertical grip on with no problems. There's still space for TC-E15ED.
However, the 200 aw may be a better fit if you don't like your equipment to be packed like sardines. :p

espn: the TC-E15D is worth getting.. but the WA, er..

actually you should consider the raynox 0.66
the orginal WA is only 0.8x... dun think it makes much of a difference.

from the reviews done by the those who own it (at dpreivew) there is no CA,
as for vignetting, since your 52mm adapter has 2 portions, juz use 1 will do.
think that will take care of vignetting.
since you already have the 52mm convertor, all you need is the Lens.. no extra convertor needed.

Me and fella are considering ordering from B&H.
(rather its me.. :p very tight budget these days.. fella is very keen!! :D ) you interested? ;)
but currently they are out of stock.

that is a good idea... if you are not using the UR-E8 and bernie 72mm. keeping your camera in view mode when you are not using it.

Met another brudder using the 5700 at the padang yesterday, he was quite surprised to see the bernie adapter...
and he was also saying that it was quite a good idea, coz he had to send his for repair after his motor got stuck when it got accidentally switched on.

Marx: decided on your DSLR yet?
thanks for the link.

fella: after you settle your ROM stuff, wanna go for a shoot..
tangozeronina may join us wif his new 5700... :D think he is getting it this weekend...
he gianz liao...

cheerz

Fella: Hmm looks too packed to me, I need to bring my X-Drive and spare batteries also. Think the flash also quite squeezed. But good for you.

Hobbes: How muchie ??? I also tight budget... ^$ $ $ $ $^ the flash already burnt a hole big in my pocket.

espn - i just got a filter pocket today @ S$13 and that really free up some space since I normally carry my filters around in their cases. I believe the 100AW may accomodate your setup too... Normally I will bring additional 10AA batts and 2 EN-EL1 batts and there's no problem finding space for them.

hobbes - tangozeronina = kenneth = the one who got my kenko?
Let him know my extra UR-E8 may go to him after all if he's still interested please. Thanks!
Shoot, shouldn't be a prob, though I actually prefer to shoot alone. :bsmilie:
The 0.66 hor, the moment got stock I will order liaoz... don't wanna wait... ;p

espn: hmm.. the raynox cost bout US$99, after conversion bout 170+
excluding shipping. how much will depend on number of ppl ordering.
dunno if tangoninazero is interested..

fella: yup.. thats him. told him bout your UR-E8 already.. think he will be contacting you shortly. BTW, i managed to fix a $50 "OEM" (manufactured by me) MC-EU1. :p
let me know if you are interested.

yo fella,

i've decided to do it with the UR-E8 and bernies 72mm adaptor, but need a final estimate on prices. how much did u get that bernie's adaptor for? and how long did it take to arrive from when u ordered?

i contemplated using that "2 piece" 49mm (or was it 52mm?) adaptor available locally, but thot it'd be leychey to screw the second piece on if i wanna zoom, and take it off when i want it wide.

then can u, or anyone gimme a rough estimate on how much a UV filter and a polariser (72 mm) is gonna cost? i'd probably be going for the "cheap" end of stuff.

thanx heaps man!~

oh and so i am definitely gonna get the UR-E8 from u!

aiyah actually why dun i just PM u. duhzz

hobbes - pls let ken know that joho is taking the ur-e8 liaoz.
My apologies to him.
Regarding the mc-eu1, you were mentioning using a palmtop? Is it bulky?

joho - have replied your pm. Bernie's 72mm is out of stock @ the moment bro..
